- Experience working on greenfield projects as part of small teams

What the job involves
- As an applied AI software engineer on our team, you'll be working on researching, designing, prototyping, and implementing our next generation of software at FOSSA
- While still working closely with the entire Engineering and Product departments, the R&D team focuses on more experimental software development that will define the future of our company
- Our current focus is around using a combination of static analysis, deterministic algorithms, along with LLM interactions, to provide our users with reliable, time-saving, and automated solutions to keeping their projects and the dependencies they use as healthy as possible The R&D team follows a lightweight process that lets the team move fast and learn from experiments quickly
- Work closely with our R&D business unit to research, plan, design, prototype, and build the future of FOSSA
- Own user-impacting functionality from conception to completion
- Build and scale the most valuable prototypes into production
- Have significant ownership in our technical architecture and R&D roadmap
- Primarily work in Typescript, but touch a variety of codebases in other languages, such as Rust, Haskell, or Go
- Contribute to structured analysis of various languages (Java, Python, others) our customers use
- Experiment with LLMs and context engineering and benchmark the results to ensure we accomplish maximal value and consistency from them

FOSSA (Free Open-Source Software Auditing) provides companies an open-source management platform for identifying open-source components in a company’s source code. This helps companies avoid potentially costly licensing infringements, and steer clear of vulnerabilities.
The developer cybersecurity market is a multi billion industry, and FOSSA has made strong headway into it since being founded in 2015. It has secured Uber, Verizon, and UiPath among its high-profile customer base. This is perhaps because FOSSA’s proposition truly seems win-win: developers receive guidance on the best open-source software, and companies shore themselves up against cyberthreats, non-compliance fines, and litigation.
FOSSA’s investment round success has begun modestly compared with more mature competitor Snyk, or the hefty seed funding of startup Apiiro. Nevertheless, its impressive client roster, combined with a new product release and the recent purchase of StackShare, suggests it is well on track to benefit from an anticipated boom in cybersecurity.
