Who you are

5+ years of software engineering industry experience building backend software, with exposure to microservices, event-driven architectures, and REST APIs, or Java EE
3+ years experience/strong proficiency with Java; Spring Boot experience is preferred
Strong fundamentals working with databases - relational & NoSQL
Exposure to building applications in the cloud (we use AWS) and experience with CloudFormation/Terraform/Pulumi
Experience with containerization, orchestration, infrastructure (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS)
Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns
Possess strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to visualize and document processes
Understanding of how to create modular and extensible APIs
Proficient at using appropriate security, testing, documentation, and/or monitoring best practices
Familiar with Agile/Scrum methodologies

What the job involves

We’re looking for back-end software engineers to build robust & scalable backend applications that power delightful experiences for our collectors
You will be on the forefront of powering our digital transformation and have a wide impact
You will help evolve legacy applications and elevate our backend architecture to provide a platform upon which we can build innovative and value-added services for both external and internal customers
You’ll report to a Director of Software Engineering and work from our Jersey City office. Remote or hybrid candidates will also be considered. We believe that there is significant value in in-person collaboration
Participate across the entire software development lifecycle, taking features from concept to production release
Communicate with Product and other stakeholders to develop business requirements
Collaboratively create solutions with other teams
Troubleshoot software issues and debug a large codebase
Develop and execute unit and integration tests
Contribute to technical documentation to increase maintainability of software assets

The industry is going through a huge renaissance, with a particularly high demand for sports and trading games cards, and Collectors has come to the fore as a major name.

The fact that Collectors is more than a marketplace serves it well in the space. Indeed, its most popular services appear to be grading and authentication, as well as storage vault services. And, with the collectibles industry forecast to double in value by the end of the decade, Collectors is in a position of serious strength.

The company has seen some good investment too, totalling over $200 million. It continues to expand its services with acquisitions of other players in the sector, and is now the parent of PSA, PSA Vault, PCGS, SGC, Card Ladder, Collectors Financial Services and Beckett.
