Today in this country, the opportunity to succeed is heavily shaped by socio-economic background. The Sutton Trust's mission is to change this.
Founded in 1997, the Sutton Trust is a UK charity researching and tackling the inequity inherent within social mobility. Utilising research and academic study, it helps young people engage with educational and career opportunities they may not previously have been able to access.
The Sutton Trust’s programme results speak for themselves. 93% of its students moved from the lowest to the highest socio-economic group after leaving university, whilst the charity itself has released over 300 reports on social mobility since its founding. Many of these reports have influenced government policy, including NHS workforce plans, university admissions fees, and free school lunches. It partners with leading businesses like Deutsche Bank to widen access to apprenticeships, training programmes and grad schemes, all to help young people meet their potential.
With decades of experience behind it, The Sutton Trust is a leading and highly active force in promoting UK social mobility. Its Government Cabinet Report, for instance, sheds much-needed light on the educational background of the most powerful job positions in the country, exemplifying the charity’s focus on transparency and positive change.
