5+ years of software development experience with cloud application development
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related industry experience
Successful track record of delivering and maintaining reliable, scalable, traceable and performant distributed systems to customers in a production cloud environment, preferably AWS
Extensive experience with building and using REST APIs
Java (or any modern OO language) and concurrent programming
Agile development environment and is comfortable decomposing complex problem statements
Excellent written and verbal communication skills - You are confident in writing down and presenting your designs and decisions throughout the development lifecycle. You are also comfortable providing and receiving feedback in an Agile environment

Desirable

Relational Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL or equivalent)
Distributed in-memory datastore (Redis, Memcached, Hazelcast or equivalent)

What the job involves

This position is needed to build and deliver Voice functionality to our customers through our ConversationRelay offering. ConversationRelay was featured at the 2025 SF Signal conference and allows our customers to build delightful, realistic, customized Voice solutions leveraging their LLM
Design, develop, deploy and monitor significant new features with predictable velocity in a high available, low latency, scalable cloud environment
Embrace agile development, test assumptions and unknowns, help define technical roadmap from those learnings
Maximize engineering efficiency via: CI/CD pipeline, Automated tests
Demonstrate operational excellence through system observability, alerting, on-call procedures and testing best practices

Traditionally, it has been difficult for businesses to establish communications systems in-house. Twilio was founded from frustration with this expensive and cumbersome process, providing easy-to-use APIs to let businesses send and receive telephone and text communications.

From these beginnings, the company has expanded through acquisitions and product development to provide a suite of services around market data and customer engagement. It is now a market leader in this space, and has developed a customer base of more than 150,000 businesses including enterprise brands such as Deliveroo, Duolingo and Toyota.

With that said, aggressive expansion and lack of maturity in some of its products has impacted the company's efficiency, and like many of its peers it has been forced to restructure heavily to remain competitive. Coming out of this restructuring, the company will focus on profitability, streamlining decision making and R&D to put itself in good stead for future success.
