Who you are
- You'll have experience in communicating media messages and relevant media contacts combined with the ability, confidence and credibility to understand and manage complex and sensitive issues
- You'll bring drive, critical thinking, a calmness to work in a lively press office in a scrutinised sector
- Experience in communicating consumer media messages and relevant media contacts
- Experience of providing counsel on the external environment and working closely with other corporate affairs teams including social media, internal communications, public affairs and our business partnering teams at the right time to build robust coordinated communications plans
What the job involves
- We're looking for an enthusiastic communications professional to join us to support the development, implementation and management of the Group’s media relations and external communications for the Group and its brands
- In this role you’ll support the team in delivering compelling stories that bring to life the strategy, whilst also communicating on live issues in a way that promotes and protects the Group’s reputation
- We do this directly, through our daily engagement with national, broadcast and regional media, but also through the insight and counsel we give to the management team
- Delivering media activity in a fast-paced environment to support key business areas, including projects working with partners promoting the Group’s reputation to external audiences
- Acting as a source of professional expertise, providing media advice to partners and business areas, including challenging and influencing senior partners
- Handling enquiries from the media relating to specific business area(s) with a key focus on Group and corporate issues, alongside supporting our consumer banking division on proactive projects, research and campaigns to enhance the reputation of a brand within the Group
- Identifying, raising and mitigating emerging risks as appropriate to protect the reputation and interests of the Group and colleagues
- Providing Corporate Affairs input to support delivery of projects or where appropriate delivering projects and initiatives within relevant business areas
- Deputising for senior manager colleagues and handling media queries out of hours on a rotational basis
- Given the media spotlight remains strongly on the financial services sector, you’ll need to build and maintain positive relationships with internal partners as well as media using excellent communication skills, with a nose for news and the ability to cut through complexity and adapt to different audiences
- There will be scope for you to demonstrate your passion for communications, with a proactive, and can-do approach, including experimenting with innovative ideas
