Who you are
- With a proven track record of applying advanced data science and AI techniques to solve complex business problems and deliver measurable commercial value, you'll bring a strong academic background - educated to MSc, PhD or equivalent — alongside hands-on experience building and deploying data products
- You’ll have a background that enables you to contribute effectively from an early stage, applying proven data science and AI techniques in a production environment
- This role is therefore best suited to candidates with relevant professional experience, rather than those who are newly qualified
- Confident working with modern coding languages such as Python and SQL, and industry-standard tools and platforms including GIT, CI/CD pipelines, MLFlow and Databricks, you'll be comfortable turning data into real-world impact at scale
- A Data Science and AI expert with a proven track record in leveraging data science and AI methods to solve business problems and deliver tangible business value
- Educated to MSc, PhD or equivalent apprenticeship level in physics, mathematics, statistics, data science, AI or computer science
- Proven expertise In using relevant coding languages (Python, SQL etc.), tools (e.g. GIT, CI/CD pipelines, MLFlow etc.) and platforms (Databricks etc.) to deliver data products
- Strong problem-solving skills are essential, along with an ability to manage a varied workload
- Effective communication skills with ability to convey "why do we care" messages clearly to broad range of stakeholders having different technical capabilities
- Motivated by delivering results in a fast-paced digital and transformational organisation
- Collaborative, team player with a tenacious, resilient mentality and can do attitude
- Experience in the Telecommunications sector is a bonus
What the job involves
- Driven by increasing demand for Data Science and AI solutions across the business, we’re expanding our teams
- We’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist with practical, real‑world industry experience in a similar role
- Apply expertise in mathematics, statistics, data science, machine learning and AI (Including GenAI) to deliver business value by solve complex business problems
- Develop, test, deploy, monitor and maintain data products In production using Industry best practice MLOps capabilities
- Adhere to all data science governance, regulatory and legal requirements and best practice
- Work collaboratively with colleagues from across different disciplines Including but not limited data engineering, data modellers, architects, risk and compliance and business functions
- Communicate outputs and findings to a range of stakeholders with a clear focus on the business value
Our take
TalkTalk is a connectivity provider serving 4 million customers. Originally founded as a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse, it was demerged as a standalone company in 2010. TalkTalk boasts a number of firsts in the industry; including launching free calls between its customers, providing a whole-home filtering service, and bringing WiFi 6 router technology to the UK.
In hopes of optimising the experience of its broadband customers, TalkTalk has partnered with DZS, which is a leader in access and optical edge infrastructure and cloud software solutions. TalkTalk will leverage the market-leading technologies of DZS, including DZS CloudCheck and Expresse Cloud EDGE, towards reducing call escalations, minimising equipment replacements and shortening call handling times.
In 2022, TalkTalk acquired rival SSE from Ovo Energy, in order to bolster its customer portfolio. Rumours of its own acquisition by Virgin Media O2 followed that same year, though the deal did not come to fruition. The company also agreed a partnership with Telecom Acquisitions, the manager of a number of broadband ISP brands and products, which includes TalkTalk securing the controlling stake in the company.
