Role
Who you are
- Previous in-house experience in a Commercial Contract Management role as part of a legal team
- Previous ownership of commercial processes including contract management, client negotiation and drafting
- Any industry experience related directly to revenue-generating/commercial contracts is valuable, but industry experience within Software/SaaS or Healthcare / Life Sciences is highly sought
- Knowledge of Healthcare laws and data protection/privacy is highly valueable (Sunshine law, Anti-kickback statue, False claims act, bribery act, HIPAA)
What the job involves
- If this sounds like you and you are driven by purpose, Join the SOPHiA GENETICS Legal & Compliance team as a Junior Legal Counsel or Commercial Legal Counsel, and enable us to make a positive impact on the outcomes for cancer and rare disease patients worldwide
- Supporting our legal activity across North America, this role would likely suit someone with previous in-house experience, but could be suitable for a first-mover to industry with suitably strong commercial contracting exposure
- Reporting to the VP, Legal Affairs you will provide legal advice, support and guidance on commercial, sales and contract processes across North America
- Overseeing the contract lifecycle process, including planning, collaboration, negotiation, execution and coordinate the signing process for contracts and other legal documents
- Support Sales & Business Development teams with their contract processes as we pursue commercial growth across North America
- Use your knowledge of commercial law to provide drafting, negotiation and business counsel to support key commercial transactions, drive projects to completiont and help mitigate legal or business risk
- Where suitable, add knoweldge of healthcare law, technology IP or Data protection to further support or enhance legal commercial processes

Our take
Though health and genetic data are increasingly available in large quantities to healthcare providers, it can be very difficult to gain insights from it. Data processing is a significant bottleneck, and important information which could be vital to a patient's health can easily be overlooked or misinterpreted. SOPHiA GENETICS has developed a SaaS platform which seeks to change this, by processing raw data received from partner institutions and then returning a standardised report which can be actioned by the end user. The platform then learns from this process, becoming more capable the more data it receives.
The global healthcare AI market is thriving, with numerous large competitors in the sector such as Welltok, iCarbonX and IBM (Watson Health). However, SOPHiA's USP is its support of democratizing health data, which means that it has continually worked closely with a variety of healthcare providers each using different instruments, and providing non-standardized data. While this was initially a hurdle, once overcome it has become a strength, allowing the platform to engage with the equipment a healthcare provider has rather than requiring a particular inventory.
SOPHiA went public in 2021 and since then has pursued collaborations with institutions and companies that focus on cancer screening and diagnostics. Most recently the company launched advanced MRD tracking capabilities, further innovating in the oncology space. With these cutting-edge tools. SOPHiA strengthens its leadership in data-driven medicine, paving the way for more personalized healthcare.
