Sofar manages live events in unique, curated spaces such as galleries or even people's living rooms and is programming in 78 countries. It has also helped many artists get recognised. More than 40 artists who played Sofar while unsigned or relatively unknown have now been nominated for or won a Grammy award.

As they expand, their goal is to become the de facto way emerging artists play outside of traditional venues. It has come under some criticism for profiting by paying artists low appearance fees, but nevertheless, plenty of musicians still sign up to do gigs with Sofar.
