Who you are
- You must possess a "hunter/closer" mentality with a proven track record of success within a value-driven sales model
- 2+ years experience growing pipeline and selling enterprise IT solutions
- Consistent track record of success and history of quota attainment in consultative sales environments
- Adept at using Salesforce.com or other CRM tools to manage accounts, contacts, and opportunities throughout the sales process
- Outstanding communication skills - written and oral including strong presentation skills
- Exceptional time management skills
- High-integrity, intelligence, and self-driven
- Highly developed selling, customer relations, and negotiation skills
- Ability to penetrate accounts and meet with stakeholders within accounts
- Team player
- Open to Travel to customer locations as needed
- BS/BA degree or equivalent preferred

- As a member of the Confluent Sales Team, the Account Executive- Digital Native Business is responsible for selling Confluent solutions into small and medium-sized enterprises
- We expect you to use your prospecting, sales, negotiation, and leadership skills to effectively sell Confluent offerings into leading companies in order to meet and exceed your quarterly sales target
- Works to achieve maximum sales profitability, growth, and account penetration within an assigned territory. Territory may be a combination of geographic, product, industry, and other customers/market dimensions
- Sells to the territory directly or via partners
- Manages accounts throughout the entire sales process, and collaborates with team members in business development, customer success, and support to uncover all customer needs
- Responsible for understanding product offerings and competitive issues to develop solution proposals encompassing all aspects of the sale
- Travels to customer sites to identify/develop sales opportunities when required
- Participates in the development, presentation, and sales of a value proposition
- Customer presentations with C-levels (as required) to negotiate and close strategic and complex deals
- Liaises with customer contacts for the purpose of managing the customer relationship, identifying new opportunities, and maximizing sales
- Comfortable negotiating SaaS/cloud/software contracts
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
