Who you are
- Great understanding of all aspects of people development learning & skills using strong data and analytics skills to measure impacts and continuously improve what we do
- Significant experience of shaping and executing simple and tangible interventions which make our people and business better in a measurable way
- Strong consulting, influencing and communication skills at all levels, including PLC Board, Executive Committee
- Good political acumen - able to read the internal and external environment to proactively steer decisions
- Great leader and role model with track record in leading within a matrix environment
- CIPD / Degree/ Masters in Occupational Psychology/ Organisational Learning
What the job involves
- This is an exciting Director level opportunity within the People function, responsible for working with the business globally to define and & deliver Aviva’s learning & skills strategy
- You will shape the global learning and development proposition and curriculum to ensure all colleagues are equipped with the right skills and capabilities to deliver Aviva’s strategy now and in the future
- Shape, develop and deliver Aviva’s Learning & Skills strategy, building the learning & development for the skills we need today and tomorrow
- Accountable for the group’s Learning financial expenditure, managing the decisions associated with the allocation of financial resources to learning strategic priorities
- Accountable for shaping the learning and skills technology strategy and roadmap
- Accountable to shape and develop the right learning curriculum which supports the Aviva strategic priorities and workforce, shaping simple, tangible interventions
- Accountable for the leadership of all the learning professionals across Aviva- either directly or indirectly, building a Learning community of practice
- Work with and influence the Aviva Executive Committee and senior leaders on the way the learning strategy will support delivery of their business plans, and the future skills required

With 18 million international customers, Aviva is the largest provider of insurance and leading life and pension funds in the UK. With a history that dates back to the founding of Hand in Hand Fire & Life Insurance Society in 1696, Aviva’s current form is thanks to a merger between Norwich Union and CGU plc in the year 2000.
Over the noughties, Aviva grew its market out to Europe and established a high-profile foothold in America thanks to the most expensive advertising campaign of the time that included celebrities Alice Cooper and Bruce Willis. Into the 2010s, the insurance broker was forced to restructure and close a large number of its non-core businesses in a bid to increase its shareholder returns and streamline its focus. In 2012 it sold its US wing to Athene Holding to further this goal.
Now stripped back after sell-offs of subsidiaries in Indonesia, Italy, and many more countries, Aviva is refocusing on pensions. In the wake of a Pensions Dashboard Programme delay in the UK, Aviva is in the running to take over the programme thanks to its pre-existing private systems. This exemplifies Aviva’s renewed focus on the fintech sector, all whilst playing national analyst during the cost of living crisis thanks to its annual Age of Ambiguity study.
