Role
Who you are
- 5+ years in software product management, with a proven track record of successfully launching and managing commercially successful software products
- Solid technical aptitude and an ability to understand technical designs, software development lifecycle, challenges and risks
- High level of comfort working in ambiguity. Must be able to define the unknown, create structure and manage change
- Solid leadership experience with cross-functional teams in service of a large workstream
- Experience collaborating with Design, Engineering, and Data to bring product requirements and user experiences to life, while maximizing ROI
- Ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences in written and verbal communication
- Passion for self-driving technology and its potential to revolutionize the transportation industry
- Expertise in multi-platform and multi-OS application development and management, with the ability to navigate trade-offs between various architectural approaches
Desirable
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or other technical education) or equivalent practical experience
- Experience building and managing applications on top of a microservice architecture, including comfort with API contracts and service dependencies
- Experience working directly with design organizations on extreme simplification and clarity in complex user workflows, distilling sophisticated processes into intuitive experiences
- Experience operating within the autonomy and/or freight industries
- Experience shipping products to enterprise-sized customers
What the job involves
- We’re searching for a Product Manager who will drive the design and delivery of mission-critical technology across Aurora and customer terminals
- In order to do this, you will partner with key cross-functional teams, including our Commercial Operations, Software, Hardware, Business Development, and Strategy teams, to unlock scale as we expand the network footprint of Aurora’s autonomous trucks
- Develop a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of integrating self-driving technology into a trucking fleet’s existing operations
- Define product vision and roadmap, prioritizing features that deliver the most value to customers and align with business goals
- Synthesize product usage data and user feedback into actionable user stories and product requirements for iterative improvement
- Work collaboratively with engineers, designers, operations, and business development to translate product requirements into user-friendly software solutions
- Manage a range of cross-functional stakeholders while navigating key prioritization and timeline tradeoffs
- Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in self-driving technology, fleet management technology, and the logistics industry
Our take
In spite of emerging from stealth mode in 2018, Aurora is making strong waves in the flurry of startups racing to develop fully autonomous vehicles. Aurora’s hardware and software developments have historically focused on self-driving trucks, which it expects to launch commercially in 2024.
It recently named Ossa Fisher as its new President, who will focus on scaling operations ahead of this commercial launch. Passenger cars and associated services are expected to roll out following this launch. However, the self-driving industry is riddled with unmet deadlines, cash shortfalls, and tough technological challenges.
To remain competitive with deep-pocket industry giants like Tesla and Google’s Waymo, the company continues to land substantial backing from the likes of Sequoia Capital, accelerating its post-IPO growth. The pedigree of its founders may well continue to win over investor confidence. It boasts leading prior positions in the self-driving divisions of Tesla, Uber, and Google.
