Company mission

Spacelift’s mission is to help DevOps teams manage their infrastructure as code performance for maximum optimization of scaling businesses.

Role

Who you are

  • We are looking for software engineers who are passionate about building tools
  • Passion for building products, love for tech, and interest in the problem space (DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Developer Experience)
  • Proactive and owning-your-inputs mindset
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with programming – more than 1 year with Golang is a plus
  • 4+ years of experience in the tech industry (software engineering, platform, or/and DevOps)
  • You worked previously in startups (early stage) or cofounded one is a plus
  • Have experience or interest in working on developer tooling
  • Ideally, you have worked with an IaC tool — OpenTofu/Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation — or have experience with Kubernetes and CloudNative ecosystem
  • Excellent communication skills

What the job involves

  • We work in product teams (8) – a team lead, backend and frontend engineers, a UX/UI designer, and a product manager
  • To move fast and make better decisions, we work closely and pair on problems and issues
  • We believe that having Engineers leading the projects and initiatives is the best solution as our platform is very technical
  • Delivering new features and products in iterative and incremental manner
  • Owning the features end to end from the discovery process, through creating designs to implementation and maintenance
  • Tackle sophisticated technical challenges involving multiple technologies
  • Implement solutions in Go that work at scale with a strong focus on readability and testability
  • Keep learning about our problem space
  • You build it, you run it – you will also be part of the on-call rotation
  • How we work:
  • We move fast. Continuous deployments at least 2 times a day, we use heavy feature flags (LaunchDarkly)
  • Deliver features in iterations and tracer-bullet development
  • Ownership over our work and driving key product decisions
  • Working closely as a team, transparent communication, caring about our system, ourselves, and customers
  • Everything is an iteration and everything is an experiment
  • Cultivate space for small and big innovations from all-engineering hackathons to smaller, ad-hoc experiments
  • We use the best dev tools that we can get our hands on

Application process

  • 30-minute with our Talent Acquisition Manager
  • 30-minute introductory video call with one of our Team Leads
  • Take-home exercise
  • Live coding interview with two engineers
  • 45 minutes behaviour/technical interview with Marcin (Spacelift tech cofounder) and Wojciech (VP of Engineering)
  • Reference check

Our take

As cloud-native development and DevOps continue to gain momentum, it’s also becoming more difficult to manage infrastructure, particularly for distributed teams in scaling companies.

Spacelift’s solution is an Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) platform, which allows for smooth management of multiple complex cloud infrastructures, and automation of manual tasks, which the company claims to result in greatly reduced outages and downtime.

Having launched in 2020, Spacelift has been quick to scale, running teams in California and Warsaw. While there’s competition in the space, most notably from HashiCorp (which went public in late 2021), the fact that Spacelift has the likes of DocuSign, Figma, Checkout.com, and Lightspeed as customers shows that it’s doing plenty right.
