Who you are
- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in data manipulation using Python and SQL
- Analytics: Strong statistical knowledge, especially with experimental design and A/B testing
- Communication: You can distill complex insights into clear recommendations for various stakeholders
- Visualization: You create powerful dashboards and presentations that tell a story
- Proactive Problem-Solving: You identify root causes using frameworks like the Five Whys
- Collaboration: Comfortable working with cross-functional teams
- Bonus: Experience leading cross-team projects or writing production-ready Python code is a plus
What the job involves
- At Heetch, we're looking for a mid-level Product Data Scientist to join our team
- Your mission will be to analyse data, develop impactful models and algorithms, and uncover opportunities to enhance the experience of both drivers and passengers on our platform
- You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, developers, fellow data scientists and analysts, making data-driven decisions that shape Heetch’s growth
- Analyse product performance to uncover growth and efficiency opportunities
- Collaborate with product teams to deeply understand and influence roadmap priorities
- Architect and maintain data pipelines and models to transform raw data into actionable insights
- Design, monitor, and analyze experiments (e.g., A/B tests) using statistical methods (frequentist or Bayesian)
- Build and present clear, impactful business intelligence dashboards
- Navigate thousands of datasets to identify hidden business opportunities
- Automate and motivate data-driven decision-making
- Maintain and improve data quality standards

Our take
Heetch is looking to carve out its own niche in the ride-sharing industry, and taking on Uber is no small feat. They’ve been laying down a strong service and reputational foundation, though. For drivers, Heetch only take a 15% commission to Uber’s 25%, and don’t use driver ratings as a way of reporting problems; for customers, rides are cheaper than an UberX, and are designed to have a younger, funner feel.
So how well is this strategy working? Well, Heetch is second behind Uber in France, and has spread to a couple of neighbouring countries like Belgium and Italy. Predominantly, however, their expansion is focused on francophone regions in Africa like Algeria, Cameroon, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast.
This could prove a smart move, as Uber has yet to dominate many of the African markets thanks to smaller companies offering locally tailored, and more effective competing services. These same problems are likely to plague Heetch, too, but with the leader off their top spot, there may be more room to manoeuvre.
