Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering roles, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership positions
- Proven success leading SaaS product engineering teams, preferably in healthcare or mission-critical domains
- Experience with AWS-based microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and full-stack development
- Demonstrated ability to manage both internal and external development teams
- Strong architectural insight with ability to balance speed, quality, and cost in technical decisions
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development abilities
- Understanding of DevOps, infrastructure management, and cloud cost optimization
- Effective communicator with ability to align diverse stakeholders around a technical strategy
- Proven track record of delivering complex products with cross-functional teams
- Hands-on and pragmatic leader who is not afraid to dive into code when needed
- Strategic mindset with a builder mentality

What the job involves
- To strengthen our global technology leadership, we are looking for an experienced engineering leader with a strategic mindset and a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to fulfill the role of Head of Engineering
- You will play a key role in scaling our platform, growing our engineering capabilities, and shaping the future of surgical technology—making a real impact on healthcare worldwide!
- As Head of Technology - Engineering, you'll be responsible for leading and scaling Incision’s technology function to deliver robust, scalable, and high-performing products that meet the demands of our customers in hospitals and surgical teams across the world
- You'll bridge hands-on technical leadership with organizational development. Your initial focus will be to optimize our architecture, improve velocity, and align engineering outcomes with business priorities
- To ensure a deep understanding of our systems and processes, we're looking for a leader who is initially willing to actively immerse themselves within our development teams
- You'll be instrumental in accelerating Incision’s capabilities in AI and OR integrations, supporting our ambition to lead the next wave of innovation in surgical education and workflow support
- As Head of Engineering, you'll be fundamental in streamlining and enhancing our software development lifecycle
- Your leadership will ensure our engineering efforts are aligned with strategic business objectives, enabling us to achieve our goals with greater efficiency and impact
- You'll work closely with the Product, Commercial, and Customer teams
- Own our software architecture, ensuring it is scalable, modular, and optimized for long-term growth
- Lead critical technical decision-making that aligns with our business objectives
- Introduce smart and innovative technologies into our products, such as AI, to serve our users as optimally as possible
- Partner with GTM teams to shape a long-term strategic vision that supports innovation and growth
- Participate in client-facing meetings to understand their technology needs and communicate the design and rationale of our technical architecture
- Design and implement the future engineering organization, combining internal vs. external development
- Lead the recruitment of new engineering talent
- Foster an engineering culture of ownership, excellence, and continuous improvement
- Lead deployment modernization to accelerate releases and streamline code delivery
- Champion technical decision documentation to create organizational memory and support future decision-making
Our take
Surgery makes up a big chunk of hospital budgets, and has a massive role in clinical outcomes for patients. Despite this, surgery tends to differ considerably between hospitals. Differences in factors like technique, post-surgery care and even operating room efficiency have led to a low level of standardisation, and as a result, surgery across the globe is failing to be optimised to its full potential.
Incision has set out to fix this. By building a knowledge platform based around surgery, it is improving surgical practices worldwide by allowing practitioners to share experiences, skills and expertise. As well as this, Incision offers new educational products and services ranging from 3D anatomy models to AI-driven video analysis of surgical performance. Going forward, this diversity of output will be a big advantage for Incision.
With an estimated 1.2 million practicing surgeons worldwide, Incision's potential market is big and getting bigger. Its international strategy - based on building presence in a number of key markets - has been bolstered by funding, and Incision remains focused on expansion into the UK, Scandinavia, the Middle East, and Belgium. The company's goal is to impact 100 million procedures each year by 2030.
