Company mission

To redefine the applicant tracking system (ATS) category, providing talent teams with analytics, workflows and automation.

Role

Who you are

  • You’re a team builder. You’ve led SEs at a fast-growing SaaS company and helped define and scale the SE function
  • You’re an “in the details” leader that technical SEs are excited to learn from and collaborate with
  • You’re a natural coach, who provides a consistent cadence of feedback and development that helps SEs grow quickly
  • You’re energized by complex problems and love partnering with both Sales and Product to find creative solutions
  • You’re a lifelong learner who dives deep into product and industry knowledge — and knows how to make it accessible to others
  • You’re confident in high-stakes customer conversations, especially in navigating technical discovery, RFPs, and proof-of-concepts
  • You have exceptional communication skills. You ask thoughtful questions, surface nuanced needs, and explain complex concepts with clarity
  • You’re an advocate of our largest customers, and have a track record of turning customer insights into roadmap-shaping feedback
  • You’ve built or scaled internal SE infrastructure — from demo environments to security review processes — to ensure your teams run efficiently

Desirable

  • Strategy and/or Value Consulting experience
  • Familiarity with the Talent Acquisition function and ATS Data & Workflows

What the job involves

  • We’re seeking a Head of Solutions Engineering based in the Americas to lead and scale our global sales engineering team
  • In this role, you’ll report to our VP of Sales, Mike Clapson
  • You’ll ensure we have the right team, tools, and processes in place to support our rapidly growing Mid-Market and Enterprise segments
  • You’ll hire, onboard, and coach Solutions Engineers to become trusted advisors and experts in their craft
  • At Ashby, the SE team partners closely with Account Executives to secure the technical win
  • We often replace multiple incumbent tools across ATS, Sourcing & CRM, Scheduling, Analytics, and Offer Letters — making our sales cycles uniquely complex and deeply consultative
  • The Ashby platform is amazing, both broad and powerful, and our SE’s routinely deliver jaw dropping, impact focused demos

Application process

  • Deadline to Apply: April 21, 2025 at 4:00 PM UTC
  • Our interview process is designed so you can showcase your achievements and points of learning and apply those in a practical exercise
  • We'll provide you with some Ashby-specific data so you can develop a well informed perspective on our business and solutions engineering involvement
  • You’ll have opportunities to ask questions of our team throughout
  • The interview process for this role is four rounds in the following order:
  • Intro Call (30 min) - You'll meet with Steph (Sales Recruiter) to discuss your fit for the role and address questions about our market and solution
  • Experience Deep Dive (1 hr) - You'll walk Mike (VP of Sales) through your career journey in some detail to highlight your experience, achievements, and points of learning to understand how you've developed into the leader you are today
  • Presentation (1 hr) - We'll provide you with some Ashby data, and seek your perspective on the current state of the business as well as your approach to SE team leadership
  • Final Round (2 hrs) - You'll have a set of four interviews with cross-functional interviewers

Our take

Reportedly, 50% of employers don’t use applicant tracking systems, largely because of blockers with implementation or insufficient buy-in from top management. Ashby's co-founder and CEO, Benji Encz, experienced first-hand how existing solutions failed to support hyper-growth hiring needs whilst working at PlanGrid, which is in part what led to the creation of the company.

Ashby is looking to redefine the ATS category - providing talent teams with analytics, workflows and automation - and intends to replace solutions from well-established vendors like Greenhouse and Lever with algorithms. The company's AI can schedule interviews and infer demographic data, which clients use for aggregate analyses of DEI hiring metrics.

The market for recruitment software could potentially reach $3.5 billion by 2030. Unsurprisingly, there is now a growing number of startups emerging to compete for a slice of it. Despite the crowded market and having only emerged from stealth in 2022, Ashby has already secured over 500 clients (including high-profile customers like Notion and Figma). The company has also attracted impressive funding which will be used to expand its product offering beyond what is typically expected from an ATS.
