Who you are
- We are looking for someone with significant B2B SaaS experience, honed in top-tier legal environments and academic institutions
- The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic settings, leverages their creativity and persuasive skills, and has experience in heavily regulated industries
- Education & Credentials: JD from a top law school
- Experience: 10+ years of legal experience, with a significant portion spent in top law firms and in-house roles. Proven track record of handling SaaS B2B transactions is essential
- Industry Expertise: Experience negotiating deals with customers in regulated sectors with a deep understanding of the legal landscape in these industries
- Autonomy & Judgment: Demonstrated ability to work independently and make informed decisions with minimal supervision
- Commercial Acumen: Strong business judgment with a focus on balancing legal risks with business outcomes. Capable of understanding what matters and effectively communicating that perspective
- Creativity & Persuasiveness: Proven capability in crafting innovative legal strategies, and the ability to persuasively advocate for solutions that align with both legal and business objectives
What the job involves
- As Senior Commercial Counsel, you will be a key member of our legal team, responsible for leading and negotiating complex commercial transactions, providing strategic counsel to our internal stakeholders, and driving initiatives that support our business growth
- Lead and Negotiate Deals: Take the lead in structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex customer and vendor agreements
- Provide Strategic Guidance: Advise internal stakeholders on commercial strategy, risk mitigation, and regulatory implications, ensuring alignment with our business objectives
- Autonomous Decision-Making: Exercise significant autonomy in managing legal matters, making calls, and providing practical solutions tailored to our rapidly evolving business environment
- Regulatory Compliance: Significant experience with managing data privacy and processing risk (including GDPR, CCPA, etc;); negotiate deals with regulated business (including healthcare (HIPAA)), including business associate agreements, identifying compliance risks and collaborating with relevant departments
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across the organization, including sales, product, finance, and operations, to support key business initiatives and strategic partnerships
- Creative Problem-Solving: Apply your legal acumen and innovative thinking to craft solutions that address both legal and business priorities, persuasively advocating for outcomes that drive business growth
- External Partner Management: Engage with and manage external counsel when necessary, optimizing efficiency and quality of legal services
Our take
AnyScale is a platform facilitating the development of distributed applications with high computing demands on its Ray platform. It answers an increasing requirement for higher-level tech strategies among companies which are incorporating AI and machine learning into their products, and a similarly broad and growing demand for easier access to cloud programming.
AnyScale launched its first commercial offering in 2021, and intends to continue developing products that will lower the skill and resource threshold for cloud programming. In 2023 it released Aviary, a project to simplify open-source large language model (LLM) deployment. What is promising, and lucrative, about its proposition is that it offers a general-use distributed system, this sidesteps the cumbersome process of stitching together disparate distributed systems, previously a requirement for novel applications. It is currently finding use in a range of applications such as supply chain, environmental restoration and retail by organisations including Amazon and Uber.
Anyscape has raised considerable funding led by Andreessen Horowitz and Addition. This is being used to scale its team and further develop the Ray platform. As the demand for AI apps rapidly increases, Anyscape is poised to disrupt a $13 trillion market.
