Who you are

  • You have experience with CRM systems and advanced sales analytics tools for tracking performance and creating reports
  • You have expertise in sales automation tools to streamline workflows and improve team efficiency

  • Passion for creator communities and/or new product categories that are uniquely suited to live e-commerce
  • Experience with SQL or other data querying languages to pull and analyze sales data and performance metrics

What the job involves

  • The Categories and Expansion team at Whatnot is responsible for the expansion of our category suite and the continued growth of sellers and buyers on the platform
  • Sales is responsible for identifying, launching, and ramping new high-potential sellers
  • The Sales Manager will lead, manage, and scale a sales team that delivers on revenue targets
  • This individual will craft and implement strategic sales plans, coach and mentor team members, and work cross-functionally with product and marketing teams to align efforts
  • Recruit, onboard, and mentor a team of high-performing sales representatives
  • Provide regular coaching and professional development, ensuring the team meets individual and group sales targets
  • Develop and implement a sales strategy that drives revenue growth, expands our seller base, and enhances customer acquisition across multiple categories
  • Set clear performance goals, analyze sales metrics, and prepare regular reports to inform leadership on team performance and emerging trends
  • Work closely with the marketing and product teams to create a cohesive strategy for customer acquisition, product launches, and feedback-driven product development
  • Build and foster strong, long-term relationships with key clients and sellers, ensuring their needs are met and they remain active and engaged on the platform
  • Continuously iterate and improve sales processes, ensuring they scale with business growth and meet the changing demands of a growing marketplace

Our take

The collectible toy market is large, and Whatnot has built a unique social platform that enables sellers to use livestreams to showcase their products and reach more buyers. The company’s focus is on collectible toys, some of which are rare and can cost thousands of dollars, and has also expanded to sports cards.

The idea of Whatnot was led by buyer trends. Instagram's live feature became a popular place for selling toys and trading cards, but of course was not set up to facilitate bidding or handling payments after a sale occurs. Whatnot combines live showcasing with follow-up sale capabilities, thus serving the community in a more novel way than established collectibles market players such as eBay.

The company has grown fast. It was established in 2019 and has already expanded from its original category - Funko Pop figurines - to Pokemon cards, pins, sports cards, and many more. There is still plenty of scope for expanding into new categories, as the company aims to establish itself as the go-to for this large niche, which will be facilitated by the strong levels of funding that Whatnot has raised.
