Role
Who you are
- Staff/Lead experience as a Product Designer including experience with mobile design
- A design generalist: you bring visual craft, accessibility considerations, great interactions and deep understanding of UX
- Love speaking to users to understand their needs and solve problems effectively
- Understand how to use quantitative data to solve design problems
- Exceptional attention to detail that elevates designs to the next level (e.g. interaction, animations, haptics)
- Advanced Figma & prototyping skills (always learning and open to new tools)
- Comfortable taking initiative and collaborating in a fast-paced, iterative environment
Desirable
- Worked with React Native teams before and understand its components and design implications
- Worked on smartwatch interface design
- An interest or background in fitness, running or health
What the job involves
- As a growing team of six, Product Design at Runna is still lean, giving you plenty of ownership and space to lead how we work. It’s early days with lots of greenfield to explore, and we’re building a world-class team of ambitious designers who share a love for creativity, craft and collaboration
- With a close connection to our users, we’re on a mission to take Runna from the best running training app to one of the best apps in the world. This is a career-defining opportunity to work on an exceptional product loved by many
- We are looking for a talented, creative and positive team player to join our highly-skilled Product and Engineering teams to help design our iOS, Android and Apple watch applications. This position is at the heart of the App team, working on the most impactful parts of our product
- Work closely with founders, engineers, PMs and most importantly customers to help shape the future of Runna
- Solve complex design problems with simplicity and beautiful interfaces
- Prototype and use great storytelling to present the value of your ideas
- Conduct user interviews and usability testing that unlocks valuable feedback and insights to incorporate into your work
- Collaborate closely with engineers to handover design solutions beyond the flat visuals (interactions)
- Continue to iterate and help develop our new design system
- Influence and coach other designers in the team
Application process
- Screening call with Emily, Talent Lead (~25 minutes video call)
- Intro chat with Cleber, Head of Product Design (~30 minutes video call)
- Take home design task (~2 hours to complete) For candidates with a strong portfolio and track record, we’re happy to swap the take-home task for a case study presentation
- Design walkthrough and app critique (1 hour video call - presenting the design task above and doing a design critique on an app of your choice)
- Meet the team (virtual or in-person chat with founders and rest of the team)

As a way to keep fit, running has shot up in popularity in recent years, partially due to accessibility, especially during the pandemic. But for those who want to take running to the next level – whether that be a 5K or a marathon – it can be difficult to know where to start in terms of a training plan. Runna supplies an app with personalised training plans for all types of runs, to help people achieve their running and fitness goals.
Runna was founded in 2020 by running enthusiasts for running enthusiasts, in response to the lack of tools – save paying a professional trainer – available to help runners train. Although there is a wealth of day-to-day running apps available, where Runna stands out is in providing training plans for specific races, which can be distinguished by distance and goal time. In addition, it does this whilst maintaining a sense of community, which has proven to be a popular feature amongst other running apps, and still caters to a range of experience levels.
Runna has seen consistent subscriber growth since its launch, serving thousands of users globally. The company plans to build and scale into the future, reach more customers, and expand its team. An acquisition by fitness giant Strava will help it on its way to achieving these aims.
