Who you are
- Currently enrolled as a student at a Canadian post-secondary institution or technical bootcamp
- New graduates - Within 6 months of your graduation date

- Able to commute to our Toronto HQ on Wednesdays and Thursdays

What the job involves

- At Wealthsimple, we offer 4 to 8-month internships that are open to co-op and non-co-op students, and recent grads
- During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that are changing the landscape of financial services for Canadians
- You will be on a team that supports your growth, provides mentorship, and connects you to the broader Wealthsimple community!
- The Data Science & Engineering (DSE) team consists of data scientists and software engineers with diverse educational backgrounds such as math, operations research, economics, computer science, engineering and business
- The team is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making and building data products at Wealthsimple
- Building a high-quality and scalable state-of-the-art data warehouse that powers all decision making
- Leveraging machine learning and algorithms to help Wealthsimple build smarter financial products
- Using decision science to understand the cause and effect of our business decisions
- Make a real impact. You'll work on projects that help over 3 million Canadians achieve financial freedom, turning complex data into simple, powerful insights
- Work with modern technologies. Get hands-on with our data stack (Python, SQL, scikit-learn) to help develop and deploy models that make our financial products smarter and more intuitive
- Take true ownership. Go beyond the numbers to understand the "why" behind them, using decision science to measure the impact of our choices and shape future strategy
- Collaborate with a diverse team. Work alongside data scientists, engineers, and product managers from a variety of backgrounds who believe in transparency and open debate to get to the best outcome
- Accelerate your growth. You'll be part of a team that is invested in your learning and development, offering you the support and autonomy to tackle meaningful challenge

Our take
Wealthsimple is one of a crop of robo-advisors trying to democratize investment management. These companies are disrupting the industry by automating many of the processes involved in investment removing the need for human advisors.
But while other so-called robo-advisors are focused on courting the high end of the market, Wealthsimple is trying to provide the same types of tools and advice to all users, regardless of the amount they have to invest.
Wealthsimple does have higher fees than some other robo-advisors such as Betterment and Charles Schwab. However, the company believes that it provides a more user-friendly platform, tailored to millennials who will be attracted to Wealthsimple due to its ease of use and social impact offerings.
