- Have 5+ years of backend experience with technologies such as Python, GCP (Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub), MySQL, and Redis, and are comfortable in distributed, event-driven, and cloud-native environments
- Communicate clearly across remote channels and contribute thoughtfully to discussions and reviews
- Approach challenges with initiative and accountability, balancing pragmatism with technical depth
- Balance pragmatism and high standards – you know when to move fast and when to dig deeper for quality, maintainability, and scale
- Collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and leadership to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions

- Prior e-commerce experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or other STEM-related field or equivalent work experience

What the job involves
- The Foundation Services team at Recharge builds and operates many core systems that power our platform. We’re responsible for our event-bus implementations, charge processing systems, integrations with partners such as Shopify and Klaviyo, and the webhooks that connect Recharge to the broader ecosystem
- Each week, our systems handle millions of charge attempts and process more than a billion events
- Our Tech Stack: Python, Flask, GCP, Kubernetes, Dapr, Redis, MySQL/NoSQL, Terraform, Docker, Splunk, Chronosphere, Sentry
- Champion and embody our core values – accountability, collaboration, iteration, and attention to detail
- Perform thorough code reviews and provide constructive, actionable feedback
- Embrace rapid, iterative design, testing, and development to deliver value while continuously learning
- Demo your work regularly to teammates and peers
- Promote strong engineering habits, including sound development practices, security awareness, and thoughtful management of technical debt
- Advocate for improved standards, tooling, and processes across the team
- Partner with product and engineering management to shape roadmaps, plan timelines, and release features incrementally
- Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle, helping assess the technical feasibility of new initiatives
- Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture grounded in shared ownership and accountability
- Collaborate across Foundation Services and the wider engineering organization to deliver impactful, reliable systems

Our take
Ecommerce platform Recharge has been in operation since 2014, helping brands set up and manage a subscription business, removing the operational inefficiencies that brands would face when attempting to manage this themselves. Its cloud-based subscription management platform aims to offer merchants flexibility by leading with an API focus.
Recharge’s basic premise has proven a smart one, with the eCommerce subscription market growing substantially since the company was founded. It of course rose particularly steeply over the pandemic, with the closure of brick-and-mortar stores, but in general still follows a market trend towards direct-to-consumer relationships - promising a growing market for Recharge going forwards.
Success for the company has been clear, with its merchant roster boasting several thousand users including Harry’s, Oatly, and BrewDog. The sector has attracted substantial funding, with Recharge completing a remarkable funding round in 2021. This came atop its already stable, cash-flow-positive business, and supported its further progress as the subscription industry developed. The company is focused on maintaining its strong position, with new updates and improvements to its offering including Retain, a suite of tools designed to support retention throughout the subscriber lifecycle.
