Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of experience in a software engineering role
- Proficient in Next.js, React, Typescript and/or node.js
- Experience securely building and consuming RESTful APIs
- A strong understanding of server-side vs client-side rendering patterns
- Experience in building scalable, reusable UI components and implementing frontend patterns (state management, hooks, composition)
- Experience working in a modern Cloud Infrastructure (we use AWS)
- Experience with microservice architecture
- Proficiency in relational databases
- Experience with Scrum
Desirable
- Healthcare data standards and communication (FHIR, HL7v2)
- Terraform
- Keycloak and/or other access control solutions
- Container/Orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Deployment models and mechanisms (Serverless, Github Actions, Jenkins)
- Building scalable data systems using cloud (Lambda, SQS/SNS) or open source technologies (Kafka, Spark)
- Testing frameworks (Jest)

- This position is on the UI Platform team which is responsible for enabling the product teams in building and deploying efficiently
- Upcoming projects on this team include improving the scalability of the architecture, making the deployment process more seamless, and creating reusable components and processes to enhance the user experience of the console
- Help drive the technical vision of the team
- Develop software applications that meet technical and functional requirements
- Be a hands on contributor for a product that tells a compelling and complete story
- Participate in code discussions, reviews, and refactoring
- Collaborate with members across the organization to improve our products and services
- Advocate for engineering best practices
- Be a mentor and role model for team members
Our take
Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a global healthcare interoperability standard currently being adopted by major organizations across the US (including the US government) to facilitate the electronic exchange of healthcare information. 1upHealth is a health-tech company helping new organizations adopt the standard by converting data to FHIR and facilitating data sharing and analytics.
The federal government is pushing the healthcare industry to adopt FHIR-based APIs, which will be to 1upHealth’s benefit. The market appears to still be relatively unpopulated in the US, and as 1upHealth facilitates the entry of others into it, it may carve out a real and lucrative niche. Regulations that push for adoption are already coming into play - since 2021, for example, providers are obliged to make specific data available through FHIR APIs.
This market seems yet to mature in the US, and the 2017-founded 1upHealth could stand to make real progress alongside it as it does. Most recently, the company was ranked the 43rd Fastest-Growing Company in North America on the 2024 Deloitte Technology Fast 500, a significant achievement marking the company one to watch in the developing space.
