Role
Who you are
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field
- 5+ years of experience programming in Object Oriented languages including C/C++, Python programming on “bare metal” microcontrollers
- Expert knowledge with embedded microcontroller peripheral configuration including Interrupts, Timers, DMAs, and communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, and Ethernet
- 3+ years working in a Linux environment
- Desirable experience in robotic operating systems (ROS)
- 5+ years experience with robotics and robotic solutions in one or more of the following:
- Motor control
- Lithium battery systems
- Sensor interfacing and sensor fusion
- Control Theory
- Wireless Communication
- Bootloaders
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and using an oscilloscope and other test equipment to independently troubleshoot electrical and firmware issues
- Familiar with industrial machinery safety standards (CE Certification)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects with shifting deadlines and requirements
- Proficient English written and verbal communications skills required to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams
What the job involves
- Locus Robotics is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer for its Advanced Products Group (APG)
- APG is a forward-thinking cross-functional group that uses emerging technologies to evaluate product opportunities with 2–4-year roadmaps
- This role will be responsible for contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of firmware for robotics research applications
- Develop and optimize embedded software solutions for integrating and enhancing robotic capabilities
- Develop real-time control of multi-degree-of-freedom (DOF) systems and state estimation
- Conduct thorough testing of the implemented software to ensure safety, reliability, and performance
- Provide ongoing maintenance to support the continuous functionality and improvement of the integrated robotic systems
- Work closely with a diverse team of professionals from various disciplines
- Operate independently in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating initiative and leadership while engaging in cross-team collaboration as needed

Our take
Many order fulfilment warehouses rely on a combination of human workers and machinery to operate packaging assembly lines. However, these workflows are time-consuming and repetitive, showing the potential for human workers to be replaced with AI-driven robots.
Locus Robotics provides automated robotic technologies for fulfilment warehouses, offering a range of different robots for different workflows. Every robot outputs data that can be tracked and analyzed, and they can be installed rapidly and scaled depending on business size.
Whilst robots in warehouses is not a new concept, they are generally limited to warehouse giants such as Amazon. Locus Robotics, however, has taken a flexible and accessible approach to its technology, aiming to increase access and affordability so that smaller businesses can scale.
Having picked over three billion items across its network of customers, the company is well established. It has also seen significant funding which has supported international expansion. In the longer term, it has plans to consider an IPO, as long as market conditions allow.
