Role
Who you are
- Acting as a true business partner, this role requires someone who is hands on and commercially minded, with a strong professional ethic and the energy, interest, training and experience to pursue a broad array of contentious and non-contentious IP and brand protection matters
- Be a qualified lawyer with 5+ years’ PQE
- Have a strong IP background with particular expertise in litigation and brand protection
- Have excellent training (prior in-house experience would be beneficial)
- Have a global outlook and experience working with multiple territories or managing international projects
- Be experienced in managing external counsel on specific projects
- Possess excellent communication, ,organization and drafting skills
- Have a proven ability to deliver commercial and pragmatic solutions and concise advice
- Have a strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Be passionate about consumer-led technology businesses and comfortable with fast-moving projects and making judgment calls
- Be driven, forward-thinking, robust, innovative, and agile, with commercial acumen
What the job involves
- Reporting directly to the Head of Legal (IP & Innovation), you will enjoy an extremely broad role, delivering high quality legal advice and services across multiple operational territories in conjunction with our wider international Legal Team sitting in Porto, Dubai, New York, Milan and Shanghai
- Leading all material IP litigation for the FARFETCH Group globally
- Leading on all pre-action IP contentious matters (both inbound and outbound) for the Farfetch Group globally
- Leading on all brand protection matters (online and offline) globally, including management of the FARFETCH Group’s trademark, design, copyright, and domain name portfolios
- Working alongside and managing outside counsel, leading on all trademark and (where relevant) design clearance work, as well as all filings, prosecutions, and registry formalities
- Working with the Head of Legal (IP & Innovation), developing and implementing (and, where necessary, updating) Groupwide brand protection strategy for online and offline enforcement of the Group’s IP rights. Taking ownership of material business projects, including integrating acquired company IP, and providing IP support and expertise for large-scale commercial projects, marketing activations, and corporate acquisitions
- Designing and delivering IP and brand protection training and education to upskill colleagues and embed brand protection focus into the FARFETCH Group
- Supervising / Tutoring a Trainee Solicitor
- Maintaining an understanding of changes in the legal landscape relevant to the FARFETCH business and (i) providing training to legal and commercial colleagues where required, and (ii) leading on Groupwide projects to ensure compliance with the changing legal landscape

As an early mover in this space and one of the first to establish a marketplace for the luxury brands sector, Farfetch has garnered a strong reputation and customer base to match. Its online marketplace currently reaches customers in 190 countries with 1400 major brands and it maintains a physical presence in its acquisition of Violet Grey in Melrose Place, Los Angeles.
As the global economy enters a tricky period, Farfetch may find it has to adjust, with lower non-essential spending meaning that inventory in the fashion sector is piling up. This will require a sales-led approach, something that comes more easily to retailers at the lower end of the market. However all signs point to Farfetch being ready to take on the market with a leadership shakeup and strong promotional strategy.
