Role
Who you are
- A strong Python engineer who’s passionate about the tech and very familiar with the ecosystem
- Self-motivated, driven, and can solve problems autonomously
- Focused on solving problems in the best way possible
- A detail-oriented individual whose effort shows high-quality output
- An excellent communicator who enjoys teaching others through different modes of communication (e.g. writing, video)
- Must have at least 3 of the following:
- Expert level in Python with a minimum of 4 years of experience as a software engineer, developer, or equivalent technical expertise
- Experience with cffi and writing Python code that interacts with C libraries or other languages
- Experience with NodeJS and Golang is very relevant
- Experience using PyTorch and Tensorflow models
- Experience working with WebRTC
- Experience working with and building third-party developer tools such as APIs, SDKs, and client libraries
- Public contributions to open-source projects in Github or Gitlab
Desirable
- Participated in online and offline developer communities and ecosystems such as open-source platforms, blogs, YouTube video series, tech conferences, hackathons, meet-ups, technical teaching, and training
- Experience working as a Developer Advocate in the tech space
- Speaking at or hosting in-person or virtual events
- Strong social presence
- Examples of written content (e.g., Medium, Dev.to, personal blog, other)
What the job involves
- Stream is hiring for a Python Developer Advocate to join the Developer Relations team based in the EMEA
- Owning our Python WebRTC SDK, and building on the v0 we have in place
- Spread awareness of Stream by building community, driving discussions and providing guidance to developers in the Python and AI fields
- Relay feedback to the team and help influence the product roadmap based on community feedback
- Write, release, document, and manage open-source AI projects and demo apps built on Stream products
- Work closely with community members, developers, and product owners to improve Stream’s SDKs
Our take
Every day, people all over the world communicate via in-app chats. However, chat and UX tools can take months to build and years to perfect. Stream solves this problem by allowing developers to build chat and activity streams into apps quickly and without hassle.
Having started out building APIs for activity feeds, Stream quickly moved into the lucrative chat market. Its customers now include household names such as Unilever, NBC Sports, and TaskRabbit, and it has seen funding from both big-name firms and startup CEOs - a clear indication of the company's broad appeal.
The company has lately been focussed on further developing its in-house technology, in order to fuel its continued growth in the coming years. It continues to enrich its Activity Feed, Chat SDK and 2022-released AI-based Moderation products, as well as developing Live Video capabilities, which it states clients have been interested in for some time.
