Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in backend development with proficiency in languages like Python, Java, or Scala
- Expertise in vector databases and retrieval systems optimized for high-performance AI/ML applications
- In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and DevOps practices, including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD
- Strong understanding of data security, privacy measures, and data modeling
- Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Desirable
- Familiarity with cutting-edge LLM tools and frameworks such as Langchain
- Previous experience in healthcare-related technologies or regulated data environments
What the job involves
- As a Principal Software Engineer, you will work alongside a dynamic team of engineers, applied scientists, and healthcare professionals to drive advancements in our generative AI technologies
- Your focus will be on building and optimizing the backend infrastructure of our core healthcare AI platform, supporting scalable, secure, and reliable data processing for AI applications in healthcare
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend infrastructure to support high-performance healthcare AI applications
- Collaborate with research scientists and ML engineers to build data pipelines that efficiently handle large-scale healthcare datasets
- Develop and manage APIs and microservices for seamless data retrieval, processing, and model interaction
- Implement advanced data security and privacy protocols to ensure robust patient data protection
- Continuously monitor and enhance backend systems to maximize performance, reliability, and uptime
- Work with product managers to translate healthcare needs into technical solutions that enhance patient outcomes
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical projects and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation

The healthcare system is under increasing pressure to improve performance and patient outcomes, while battling inefficient operations and an ongoing staff shortage. Hippocratic AI hopes to help the industry address these issues, by supplying LLM-powered healthcare agents.
Hippocratic's agents can be employed in a number of scenarios, for example follow-ups with discharged patients, health risk assessments, or pre-op chats. Rather than delivering one conversational agent, the company has specified models that deal with different conditions - just one part of its safety-focussed approach.
By taking measures such as getting real nurses to assess its AI, Hippocratic solidifies this commitment to safety. The company has seen significant investment which it will use to fund further safety tests and develop its product moving forwards.
