Role
Who you are
- 4+ years in QA/Software Testing with a strong automation focus
- Hands-on with Playwright or Cypress (TypeScript/JavaScript) for web E2E
- Solid API testing (Postman/Newman, code-based tests, or REST Assured) and SQL for data validation
- Practical experience building, running or validating Azure Power Automate Desktop flows (or similar RPA), including test harnesses and result capture
- CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps), including test gating, artifacts, and flaky-test management
- Strong understanding of regression strategy, test data management, mocking, and testability
Desirable
- Azure ecosystem: App Service, Key Vault, Storage, App Insights, Containers/Runners
- Performance testing (Locust, k6, JMeter) and basic security checks (authZ/authN, OWASP awareness)
- Healthcare/NHS experience, and familiarity with regulated environments (e.g., DCB0129/ISO standards)
- Experience with desktop UI automation or PAD connectors for end-to-end validation
What the job involves
- As our QA & Test Automation Engineer, you’ll build the guardrails that keep our automation platform safe, reliable and fast. You will design and maintain automated test suites across web apps, APIs, and Power Automate Desktop (PAD) flows, ensuring every release is production-ready for NHS users. Your work will directly safeguard patient outcomes by catching regressions early, validating complex clinical workflows, and enabling confident, frequent releases
- Own Test Automation Across Web, API & PAD
- Design, implement and maintain automated E2E tests for web apps (Playwright/Cypress), APIs (Postman/Newman or code-based), and Azure Power Automate Desktop flows
- Build robust frameworks (fixtures, page objects, test data builders) and keep them green in CI
- Build a Bulletproof Regression Strategy
- Define smoke, sanity and full regression packs; schedule nightly runs; introduce quality gates for PRs and releases
- Track and report coverage, flakiness, and failure trends; drive continuous improvement
- Validate Complex Healthcare Workflows
- Create scenario-driven tests for lab-report pipelines (e.g., data ingest → transform → decisioning → filing)
- Assert database state (MS SQL/Hyperscale), blob storage artifacts, audit trails, and role-based access controls
- Engineer for Azure at Scale
- Integrate automated tests into GitHub Actions/Azure Pipelines; manage secrets via Azure Key Vault; publish junit reports and dashboards (e.g., App Insights / dashboards)
- Orchestrate PAD test runs on Azure VMs / runners; parameterise flows; capture logs, screenshots and recordings
- Speed, Safety, and Reliability
- Add contract tests and mocks/stubs for third-party services; use WireMock/Prism (or similar) to stabilise CI
- Run performance and resilience checks for high-volume days; baseline and alert on regressions
- Champion Quality Culture
- Write crisp bug reports with repro steps and evidence; triage with Product & Engineering
