Role
Who you are
- Deep technical domain knowledge in offensive security, with 7+ years experience delivering offensive security services (such as penetration testing and red teaming)
- Experience delivering consulting and/or managed security services and presenting findings to a customer’s senior technical leadership
- Experience managing and developing high performing teams
- Dynamic public speaker with excellent communication and presentation skills - having previously presented at numerous tier-one cybersecurity conferences
- Prior experience building communities is a significant plus
- Candidate is located in East Coast Time Zone
What the job involves
- Reporting to the CTO, this is a critical leadership role responsible for leading Cobalt’s Offensive Security Research & Community (R&C) - the fusion of Cobalt’s in-house security research and advanced service delivery capabilities with Cobalt Core, our international community of ethical hackers
- Your team and community of highly skilled and experienced security consultants and researchers will look to you to inspire and innovate in the field of offensive security. You’ll be an expert in the offensive side of cybersecurity, comfortable both geeking out and rubbing shoulders in any hacker village, whilst striding on-stage to educate (and scare) generations of cybersecurity professionals
- To be successful you’ll need to tirelessly engage with a community of super-smart and talented hackers the world over. You’ll be naturally extroverted; a barrage of ideas, research, and multi-threaded chats provide the rush you need to recharge your battery daily
- Set and execute strategy for recruiting, engaging and retaining experts in offensive security across the globe
- Own the guidelines and execution methodologies for our security services to continue offering high quality results - working with pools of experts to reflect the changing tools and techniques of modern penetration testing, system exploitation, and defensive technologies
- Work with product management to determine the security tools and intelligence sources that need to be incorporated into our platform to improve efficiency, quality, and actionability
- Work with the Cobalt Core to conduct novel security research and coordinate responsible disclosure
- Incubate and develop new offensive security services leveraging our platform and core community
- Represent Cobalt at industry conferences and customer events
Our take
Cobalt is a penetration testing platform providing PtaaS to significantly improve the efficiency and deliverability of penetration testing. The company is working to transform a multi-billion dollar industry that is set to grow in value as vulnerabilities become an increasing liability. Usefully for Cobalt, this applies across smaller and larger businesses alike, as the use (and protection) of data becomes increasingly important across all scales.
Its approach, using a curated marketplace of 400+ highly vetted ethical hackers, is pioneering in an industry typically hobbled by inefficient practices. Existing services tend to deliver a PDF list of vulnerabilities at the end of a testing period. Cobalt delivers results in real-time, integrated into the client’s existing environment.
In an age where hacker tech is continuously and rapidly developing, a service allowing companies to match this with continuous (as opposed to periodic) pen-testing will no doubt prove a vital and attractive tool.
