Role
Who you are
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a well-regarded US law school; admission to the New York State Bar in good standing
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally at a top-tier US law firm and in-house at a major company with a focus on sophisticated commercial retail leasing practice. Mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred
- Proven expertise in US real estate transactions (e.g., retail leasing for national brands, acquisitions) and international real estate dealings
- Experience with drafting and negotiating construction contracts
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills for complex real estate and commercial agreements. Proven ability to negotiate a high volume of retail leases from LOI through closing with minimal and efficient support from external counsel
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills for complex construction agreements and related professional services and product suppliers
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are advantageous
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, global environment

What the job involves
- Reporting to: General Counsel
- We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Real Estate Attorney to join our legal team in New York
- This role is pivotal in supporting Neko’s international expansion, focusing on real estate transactions across the US and global markets and supporting US operations
- The innovative use of design and space is an essential part of the Neko experience, and you will play an integral role in helping the team to advance our mission to revolutionize healthcare through technology
- Legal Advisory: Provide strategic legal advice to the General Counsel, operations, and expansion teams on real estate matters, including retail property leasing, dispositions, acquisitions, both in the US and internationally, alongside related corporate and commercial issues
- Real Estate Transactions: Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial leases and real estate agreements for healthcare facilities and offices, ensuring alignment with Neko’s global expansion and real estate strategy. Assist the expansion team in legal matters that arise during various stages of development projects including construction
- Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate legal considerations into real estate planning and business objectives, facilitating seamless expansion into new cities and markets. Engage and manage external counsel on transactions in an efficient and effective manner
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate real estate leases, construction contracts, LOIs, management agreements and supplier agreements, ensuring compliance with US and international laws
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks related to real estate transactions, disputes, and our real estate portfolio holdings
- Compliance and Corporate Governance:Develop and implement policies to ensure compliance on US real estate laws and similar laws across key markets and establish systems to ensure company compliance with real estate and construction contract requirements supporting Neko’s growth in new jurisdictions
