Role
Who you are
- Have real world experience building web applications/UI from scratch and supporting them over a meaningful period of time
- Have mastered at least one JavaScript framework (ex. React.Js, Angular.Js, Vue.Js, Ember, etc.)
- Genuinely care about code quality and test infrastructure
- Prioritize end-user experience and business value over “cool tech.”
- Have developed “computer science fundamentals”, i.e. concurrency, algorithms, and data structures (Formal CS degree NOT required)
- Self-describe as some combination of the following: creative, humble, ambitious, detail-oriented, hardworking, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action-oriented, and tenacious
Desirable
- Have production experience with web security
- Have built a Chrome extension
- Read blockchain protocol white papers for fun, and stay up to date with the proliferation of cryptoasset innovations
- Have a background in the finance industry
- Were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system. :)
What the job involves
- You will be implementing professional, high quality UIs that are used by institutional investors around the world on a daily basis to trade, invest and exchange cryptocurrency assets
- The crypto industry is one of the most exciting industries in tech today, and it is constantly changing
- At Anchorage Digital, we are building foundational technology to help the crypto industry evolve in a safe, regulated and highly secure manner, which we believe is essential for maximizing the potential of this exciting industry
- Implement UI designs to create an intuitive user experience for managing cryptocurrency
- Review other developer’s UI code to ensure consistency, reduce errors and share context across the front-end engineering discipline
- Ability to implement automated UI tests to validate your features work as expected
- Work across the front-end engineering discipline at Anchorage Digital to level up our UIs while building simple and reusable components
- Find the right balance between progress (i.e. shipping quickly) and perfection (i.e. measuring twice)
- Work on the front lines of the blockchain/crypto movement and SecOps innovation
- Ship code that will impact the global economy
- Foster an efficient deterministic testing culture, with an emphasis on minimizing tech debt and bureaucracy
- Review code across the entire front-end discipline while actively participating in product development
- Help scale the team
- Work closely with Backend engineers propose/review GraphQL API changes
- Collaborate with Product managers and designers to brainstorm and align on new design changes
- Influence architecture/product roadmap - have a seat at the table

Financial backing for Anchorage has come from prestigious investors Visa and Andreessen Horowitz. Anchorage's broad offerings are set to be matched by plans to partner across a wide spread of neobanks, challenger & incumbent banks, and corporate treasurers. This would mean an impressive expansion of their already substantial domain of influence in a rapidly developing sector.
In early 2021, Anchorage secured a national trust charter from the OCC, making it the first-ever federally chartered digital asset bank. This is significant, as it provides a good barrier to entry for other companies looking to compete in this space, and gives legacy institutions the ability to offer digital asset access to their clients. Though it has raised considerable funding in the past, crypto instability and wider macroeconomic challenges forced Anchorage to cut 20% of its staff in March 2023. 2022 clampdowns on customer due dilligence internal controllers added to the pressure on Anchorage to streamline and refocus its efforts.
