Who you are
- The ideal candidate will possess a keen willingness to learn, a problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and a strong desire to improve our end-to-end payroll processes
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in a multi-state payroll function
- At least 2 years of experience in global equity payroll processing
- Knowledge of various equity award types (ISO, NSO, RSU, LTI Cash, ESPP, etc.) and related global taxation
- Solid understanding of U.S. Payroll laws, regulations, and requirements
- Experience with Workday Payroll is highly preferred
- Advanced proficiency with G-Suite and Excel
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
- Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to effectively handle and resolve employee inquiries and issues
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Must demonstrate attention to detail, organizational skills, and consistent follow-through
- Ability to partner with cross-functional teams, including Equity, HR, Legal, and Tax
What the job involves
- SoFi is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Global Payroll Tax Specialist to support our expanding business.
- This role is essential in ensuring payroll tax compliance and reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
- Equity Processing: Handle equity payroll tasks, including pre-payments and reversals, research, and resolution of tax variances
- Tax Filing Review: Review and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings related to payroll and equity payroll processing
- Research and Amendments: Conduct research and evaluate amendments to tax filings as required
- SOX Compliance: Ensure all reconciliations are documented properly to maintain SOX compliance
- Payroll Data Processing: Oversee the processing of all equity payroll data and ensure accurate tax withholding
- Tax Return Oversight: Work with third-party vendors to ensure timely and accurate federal, state, and local withholding and unemployment tax returns
- Tax Deposits: Ensure payroll tax deposits and returns are completed in compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws
- Tax Law Research: Stay current on changes in tax laws, ensuring that tax issues affecting the company are understood and addressed
- Agency Notices: Respond to agency notices, preparing necessary documentation and correspondence
- Reporting: Produce reports to prevent and detect issues that could affect payroll tax compliance
- Additional Duties: Take on other responsibilities as required to support the payroll team
Our take
SoFi started by offering ways for students to secure better financial terms on their loans, and now offers a huge range of personal finance products, including bank accounts, loans, mortgages, investment advice, and investment opportunities. Many customers find they have to go to multiple financial service providers to meet all their finance needs, but SoFi overcomes this issue by putting it all in one place.
Its goal, to cover all the financial bases, sets them apart from many of the traditional banks and even some of their digital competitors, such as Avant, which has chosen to focus on providing credit alternatives. Although it is operating in a competitive market with a lot of big players such as Monzo, Revolut, and Starling, the company has managed to raise huge amounts of funding to support its rapid expansion.
SoFi has focussed on global expansion, moving outside the US, and has made a series of acquisitions to support this - including a Hong Kong-based investment app called 8 Securities. After going public on the New York Stock Exchange via a SPAC merger in June 2021, the company has continued to evolve and release more mission-oriented services into its roster, and strengthened its lending capabilities through a $350 million post-IPO loan. To date, the company has sold over $15 billion in personal loan collateral and continues to strengthen its offering.
