Who you are

Expert level knowledge of C or C++ programming; other languages and skills also valuable
Experience with driver development for sensors and actuators and usage of test frameworks with Hardware in the Loop
Experience developing on resource-constrained embedded hardware
Experience with ML training and inference methods
Bonus points for contributions to an AI framework
Strong knowledge of communication protocols, from low level (SPI, UART, CAN) to high level (TCP/UDP)
Experience with robotics middleware, such as ARK, LCM, ROS, or ROS2
Experience with Linux operating systems, especially embedded environments

What the job involves

The Onboard Infrastructure team, as a part of Software Platform, works closely with teams across Glydways spanning Vehicle Hardware to Autonomy to provide the software foundation for running and controlling the robot on the road
Whether it’s streaming data from the latest sensors, controlling actuators on the vehicle, creating a custom OS, shipping a new ML framework, or writing tools and systems to support live track operations - the Onboard Infrastructure team gets things done to keep the vehicle and other teams moving forward
Design, build, and test mission critical onboard software for the Glydways platform
Write high performance code responsible for interfacing with onboard devices, from sensors (Camera, Radar, LiDAR, IMU) to vehicle systems (DBW, controls, actuators, etc)
Develop and integrate runtimes and middlewares for code and ML models to execute and communicate onboard
Contribute to design and implementation for live track operations such as software deployment, vehicle provisioning, and logging
Work with Autonomy teams to design, build, and execute runtime and evaluation pipelines
Decode, implement, and optimize communication with devices over various protocols, transports, middlewares, and connections

Our take

Although more than 4000 cities across the globe meet the threshold for necessary urban mass transit systems, under 5% of them have the capacity to make it a reality. Glydways' autonomous electricity-powered transport systems could provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative for the 95% without rail or transport systems.

Glydways' Personal Rapid Transit systems consist of battery-operated electric vehicles called Glydcars that travel on dedicated rights of way. These “roads” can be built above ground level or through tunnels, and can integrate with other forms of public transport already existing within the city or town.

Whilst the addition of Glydcars' infrastructure raises questions about additional costs, the company’s mass transit solution has nonetheless attracted positive attention and serious investment from the likes of Bill Gates' venture fund, Gates Frontier. Its Series C round of funding was followed by news that Glydway is involved in over 100 different mass transit projects, with a world tour of its vehicles taking place through 2025.
