Who you are
- 8+ years of relevant marketing/advertising legal experience, including significant in-house CPG experience
- Experience providing legal advice with respect to cosmetic, OTC and/or personal care products
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements is preferred
- Ability to form strong relationships with cross-functional partners and business leaders, including on the marketing, R&D and regulatory teams
- Member in good standing of the NY or other state bar
- Excellent academic credentials
- You have outstanding legal technical skills
- You admit when you don’t know the answer and work hard to get it; you love to learn new things
- You are adept at developing innovative solutions to complicated legal problems
- You succeed by building strong working relationships with colleagues across levels, functions and teams, and you always think about how to help them excel

What the job involves
- Harry’s is seeking a talented attorney to join its Legal team as Director, Global H&F Marketing for the Global H&F business unit of Harry’s, Inc., comprising the Harry’s and Flamingo brands
- The successful candidate will be a close partner to the Global H&F marketing, R&D and regulatory teams, advising on everything from product development to go-to-market strategy and consumer-facing marketing claims
- Partner with the Global H&F brand and R&D teams to understand the business’ goals and commercial strategy
- Review and provide risk-aligned advice on product and brand advertising strategies and claims, including guidance on claim substantiation, across the US, Canada, UK and EU H&F businesses
- Collaborate with the Global H&F regulatory team to advise as necessary on marketing and product-related regulatory and compliance matters (e.g., FTC, FDA)
- Stay up to date on key developments and trends in advertising law, regulatory enforcement and competitor activity in product categories relevant to the Global H&F business
- Work closely with the Enterprise legal team to ensure optimal business and legal outcomes on third party marketing-related challenges and inquiries and product-related intellectual property matters
- Develop processes and best practices for advertising claim development, review and approval to increase speed and improve compliance
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts of varying complexity in partnership with the Global H&F marketing and R&D teams, as necessary
- This role will report to the Senior Director, Legal - Global H&F
- Your work will be primarily cross-functional in nature - you will collaborate particularly closely with the Global H&F marketing, R&D and regulatory teams
- You’ll efficiently collaborate with outside counsel
Our take
Harry’s Inc shot to fame in the years after its 2012 launch for developing and selling high quality, affordable men’s shaving and grooming products online. Between then and now, the company has grown tremendously, expanding into major retail stores, and launching three more brands: Women’s shaving products company Flamingo, hair care-focused Headquarters, as well as cat food brand Cat Person.
Though a billion dollar sale to consumer brand corporation Edgewell was surprisingly blocked by the Federal Trade Commission in 2020, Harry’s product and brand diversification actually led to a significant boost in sales.
The blocked sale of the company, while a shock at the time, has proven to be a blessing in disguise. Harry’s has gone on to raise hundreds of millions of dollars, which it has used to expand its portfolio of brands – all in keeping with its aim of becoming a major multi-category consumer packaged goods (CPG) company.
