Who you are

  • Experience in backend development using modern technologies such as NodeJS, Typescript PostgreSQL and Kubernetes
  • Experience in UI development (React & Typescript)
  • Experience in building robust, complex and distributed web applications
  • Motivation for solving customers problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace
  • Strong collaboration skills & ability to coach other engineers in the team
  • Ability to work in a hybrid capacity from our Berlin office 3 days a week

What the job involves

  • The product consists of our own micro-frontend, which has many complex forms, developed with React and TypeScript, and a backend service to provide an API and background processing
  • The backend service runs in Kubernetes, is developed with Node.js and TypeScript, and uses PostgreSQL, Redis, and RabbitMQ
  • In addition, we're actively using a few libraries and services that were developed in-house
  • Scalability is at the center of everything we build to ensure that we can support growing advertiser needs
  • On the frontend side, the challenges include making the process of creating templated ads as intuitive as possible while accounting for the complexities imposed by TikTok and maintaining a similar look and feel across platforms supported by Smartly
  • With the backend, we solve problems like ensuring the template engine scales while meeting constraints of the TikTok API, such as rate limits and validations
  • In addition to the above, you would be building APIs and helping other engineering teams to port their features to TikTok
  • You will be able to heavily influence the development of the product and own the features end-to-end. Multiple teams are involved in different parts of the product development, and we strive towards effective cross-team communication and collaboration

Our take

Smartly.io helps advertisers automate their campaigns across the largest media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. After seeing quick success following Facebook’s 2012 IPO, the company now works with over 700 brands including eBay, Uber, Ralph Lauren, Under Armour, and TechStyle.

Its suite of tools automatically creates ads and videos from product images, handling budget allocation, audience targeting, and where and when to purchase advertising. Consequently, Smartly.io has positioned itself to play a leading role in a market where brand and performance work are converging.

Smartly.io sold a majority stake to Providence Equity Partners in 2019 in a move to further its presence in the US. The company has since gone on to make several acquisitions of its own with Viralspace.ai and Ad-Lib.io. Smartly.io's ability to adapt to evolving social media advertising trends has it well set to see continued growth.
