Who you are
- Up to 5 years of experience including internship within a technology company
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
- Competent in SQL and Python. Can implement advanced data manipulation and build highly reliable data ingestion pipelines from scratch
- Proven ability & demonstrated flexibility to collaborate effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders across global time zones
- Exposure to cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure as code
- Communicate clearly, especially to technical audience effectively, both verbally and in writing
- The ability to adapt to new situations and learn quickly is valuable in a fast-paced work environment
- Able to collaborate and work well with others can contribute to a positive work environment
- Can manage their time effectively and prioritize tasks is more likely to be productive and efficient
What the job involves
- As a Data Engineer in the Data team you will take on big data challenges in an agile way
- You will build data pipelines that enable data analysts, data scientists, operation teams and stakeholders across the wider business to make data accessible to the entire company
- You are encouraged to think out of the box and utilize the latest technologies
- Successful candidates must demonstrate strong technical capabilities, a can-do attitude and the flexibility to work seamlessly with stakeholders and team members located across different international time zones
- Design, construct, and deploy highly efficient and reliable data pipelines that seamlessly transfer data across various platforms, including Data Warehouses and real-time systems
- Develop deep expertise in these data pipelines and manage their Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure optimal performance
- Optimize data ingestion, transformation, and storage for performance, reliability and scalability
- Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Scientists and business stakeholders to create internal data products aimed at boosting operational efficiencies across the organization
- Implement data quality, observability and governance best practices
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
