Who you are
- Ethos is looking for an ambitious self-starter for our Senior Director, Strategic Finance Role!

- A minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience in Corporate Finance / FP&A / Strategic Finance, preferably including 3+ years at publicly traded companies or late stage pre-IPO companies. Prior experience in investment banking and/or private equity / growth equity a plus
- Best-in-class excel skills and extensive experience developing insightful financial models and quantitative analyses, paired with strong critical thinking and sound business judgment
- Prior experience building and leading finance teams
- Proven track record of identifying and deploying AI tools in finance workflows to improve efficiency and decision-making
- Expert in building new processes in an enterprise financial planning system (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan)
- Motivated self-starter with a track record of success and a proven ability to juggle multiple projects/tasks while hitting deadlines. Desire to own and drive projects from Day 1
- Excellent communication skills and effective cross-functional collaborator
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Deep understanding of valuation methods and strong working knowledge of GAAP

What the job involves
- This hire will play a major role in defining the company’s financial plan and provide financial and operational decision support to cross-functional partners
- You will play an integral part in Ethos' success by scaling and improving our corporate finance functions, driving financial planning processes, and working with various business partners to develop strategic analyses on key business initiatives
- This role will have high visibility across the executive team and will require you to solve the most complex, interesting challenges of a rapidly-scaling startup
- Implement new processes and improve financial controls to ensure the health and stability of our increasingly complex business
- Own and drive financial planning and budgeting processes. You will play a critical role in determining resource allocation and guiding Ethos’ growth and trajectory
- Develop and monitor critical financial performance metrics. Drive key corporate reporting requirements to the Board of Directors and Executive Team (e.g. company level KPI tracking, performance to plan, budget vs. actual variance analysis and more)
- Actively contribute to the design and implementation of accounting and planning tools (e.g., NetSuite, Pigment, etc.)
- Drive high-impact strategic and operational initiatives and deliver business analytics and insights to drive decision making related to unit economics, customer acquisition, operations, core business expansion, and new opportunities
- Apply a data-driven analytical approach to influence decision making and support company leadership in evaluating strategic initiatives

Ethos was founded to increase the transparency of life insurance, making it accessible and affordable to all. The company wants to add openness to the process; losing a loved one is hard enough before one even considers financial implications, particularly with the loss of a primary earner.
Ethos uses predictive technology to rapidly quote life insurance rates and verify an applicant’s medical information. This expedited process allows most users to secure life cover on the same day they apply, a process which normally takes a number of weeks. The company works with some of the biggest providers in the industry, including Legal & General America, AAA Life and Ameritas Life Insurance Corp.
Ethos has been one of the more heavily publicized of the recent wave of insurtech companies, with investors such as Google as well as celebrities Will Smith and Jay Z, taking its valuation to over $2B and putting it in a great spot for future growth.
