Who you are
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Science or Data Analytics, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2026 and Summer 2027 (required)
- Analytical Expertise: Proven experience in data analysis, root cause analysis, and recommending deterrent enhancements
- Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with databases (SQL) and basic proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python) to analyze data and automate repetitive tasks
- Communication: Outstanding written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to audiences of varying seniority
- Investigative Mindset: A creative problem solver who can work autonomously and make independent decisions within a broad procedural framework
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment and manage multiple priorities with consistency and reliability
- Integrity: Highest level of integrity and experience in the management of highly confidential and sensitive information
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Global Security Investigations Analyst Intern to join our team in the San Francisco office and provide the data-driven insights necessary to protect our people, assets, and reputation
- The Global Security Investigations Analyst Intern will report directly to a Global Security Investigations Manager while working in close daily collaboration with other Global Security Investigators
- This role is pivotal in bridging the gap between raw investigative data and actionable intelligence
- You will be responsible for triaging incoming leads, identifying emerging threat patterns, and supporting high-priority investigations that impact Lyft’s global footprint
- Triage and Analysis: Serve as a member of the team responding to investigative leads, triaging and identifying potential risks to Lyft’s business units, including Risk, Community Safety, Payment, Identity, and Integrity (PII) and Flexdrive
- Investigative Support: Collaborate directly with Global Security Investigators to provide analytical support on complex cases related to organized crime, fraud, trust & safety and internal threats
- Data Intelligence: Analyze large datasets to identify trends in organized theft and security breaches, leveraging SQL and scripting to automate data collection and generate insights
- Reporting: Build detailed investigating tooling to support investigative automation and efficiency using analytical software
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with internal partners in Legal, Policy, Fraud, Trust & Safety, and Operations to drive mitigation solutions for identified gaps and risks
- Case Management: Utilize case management, internal tools & apps and ticketing systems (e.g., Jira) to track, prioritize, and manage the lifecycle of multiple concurrent investigations
- Program Support: Assist with Global Security and Executive Protection programs on an as-needed basis to ensure comprehensive organizational safety
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialled and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app, whilst the acquisition of European competitor Freenow could add 6 million new riders to its platform in 2026.
