Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus
- 10+ years of product management-related experience in enterprise software, database management, or cloud computing industry, with a proven track record of launching and managing complex, enterprise-grade products
- Strong technical background with familiarity in cloud platforms and database management systems, enabling effective collaboration with engineering teams and understanding of technical trade-offs. Experience in Open API design is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate efficiently with internal teams and external clients
- Passion for tackling ambiguous challenges and driving solutions to unowned problems
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Product Manager to be responsible for the strategic development and enhancement of TiDB Cloud Dedicated, a cutting-edge product designed to meet the needs of enterprise customers
- In this role, you will be responsible for driving the product's roadmap, prioritizing innovative features, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver a world-class cloud database management solution
- Strategy and Vision: Develop the strategic roadmap for TiDB Cloud Dedicated, ensuring alignment with business goals, customer needs and TiDB Cloud product strategy, while continuously refining the product through user feedback, market analysis, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Feature Prioritization and Innovation: Identify, prioritize, and deliver features that enhance TiDB Cloud Dedicated product capability in terms of scalability, reliability and operational excellence to meet the requirements of enterprise customers and drive TiDB Cloud evolution
- Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, sales, presales, marketing, and customer success teams to ensure seamless product development, successful feature releases, and alignment across all stakeholders
- Product Marketing and Promotion: Create compelling product-related materials, including presentations, case studies, and documentation, to support marketing and sales efforts, while driving product strategy and positioning in the market
- Customer-Centric Development: Establish and maintain a robust feedback loop with customers to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement, translating customer needs into actionable product enhancements and deliverables
- Industry Awareness: Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, applying these insights to enhance our products
Our take
Frustrations with the available database solutions are what inspired PingCAP. When three infrastructure engineers got together, their aim was to eliminate the issues with management, scalability and maintenance of databases by creating their own open source distributed database.
With worldwide contributions from like-minded developers, the cloud-based NewSQL database TiDB was created. It soon gained great popularity and so, being open source, is constantly being enhanced.
With the creation of a product that eradicates the problems faced when attempting to scale up traditional relational databases, a wealth of data migration tools and no vendor lock-in, TiDB is an attractive proposition for businesses that need future flexibility. Notable clients include China Zheshang Bank, PatSnap and leading Asian logistics company Ninja Van.
With the backing of $270 million Series D funding in 2020, TiDB continues to grow, and a portfolio of complementary products is in development. It also gained positive publicity from its receiving the award for Open Source Data Solution Provider of the Year from the Data Breakthrough Awards 2024.
