Who you are
- Research Pedigree: An MS or PhD (or in progress). in a computational science field (e.g., Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, Physics, or Mathematics)
- Subject Matter Expertise: A deep understanding of Data Operations, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), LLMs development, and/or post-training efforts. You should be comfortable reading and interpreting academic papers
- Technical Writing Excellence: Proven experience writing software support documentation and research-focused marketing collateral. You can move seamlessly between a "How-To" guide and a deep-dive technical blog post
- Inquisitive Mindset: The ability to ask "Level 3" questions to our engineers and scientists, probing beyond the surface to get to the core of a new technical implementation
- Independence: A self-starter who manages complex projects with minimal supervision and meets strict deadlines
- Location: Based in the US or EU
What the job involves
- As a Freelance Technical Writer with a research background, you will act as the primary translator between LILT’s high-level computational breakthroughs and our global audience
- Deep Research Insights: Collaborate as a peer with our Research Team. You will digest market whitepapers, published papers, experimental data, and new LLMs to produce technical marketing material, research blogs, and "State of the Art" reports
- Own the Knowledge Base: Gather information, write, and review content for the LILT Knowledge Base, ensuring technical accuracy in descriptions of our LLM Benchmarks, model assessments, and adaptive AI products
- Liaise with GTM to produce content for a variety of consumers, from technical customers, buyers, product leaders, and enterprise AI leaders
- Strategic Content Architecture: Use your industry knowledge to inform content and informational messaging strategies, whether for pitch decks or for advertising

Our take
Widely available tools like Google Translate are not fit for complex, operationally intense processes that require expert translations. The manual methods of yesterday can't scale to the volume of digital information produced today. Lilt works with companies, schools, and government agencies to provide AI-powered enterprise language translation. Its platform combines a translation management system and neural machine translation with human language experts to create a “human-in-the-loop” approach.
While companies like AI Translate offer intelligent machine translations, they still have linguists fine-tune and correct the texts afterwards. With the Lilt platform, AI and humans work together on text, with the AI making real-time sentence suggestions and the linguist reviewing them immediately. This collaboration delivers 3-5x greater efficiency than traditional human-only translation services, which has aided Lilt's substantial rounds of funding.
Clients such as Asics, Canva, and Digital Ocean use Lilt technology for urgent campaigns and large-scale localisation projects. Recently, Lilt launched its V3.5 translation models, which improve quality by 15% to 20%, significantly enhancing translation accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, Lilt appointed a new Chief Revenue Officer to drive growth and scale, underscoring its commitment to expanding its market presence and further improving its services.
