Role
Who you are
- A strong technologist, with 7+ years as a platform/Devops/infrastructure engineer in a cloud native environment and 3+ years managing software engineering teams. You can provide useful feedback on a staff-level engineer’s design proposals or pull requests. You have built complex systems in a major cloud platform (we’re on GCP, but appreciate AWS experience too) and have experience-backed opinions about container orchestration; IaC; and CI/CD
- Knowledgeable about the software development lifecycle. You view processes such as Kanban and Scrum as tools in a toolbox, and you know which tools to apply in which situations
- Great at hiring and mentorship. You have a track record of bringing talented engineers into an organization, and the people you’ve supported say that you have helped advance their careers
- Up-to-date on industry best-practices and tools, and enjoy learning new things
- Excited about being hands-on in a fast-moving, productive, and supportive environment
- Willing to pitch in wherever needed
- Have thrived in a fast-growing startup, knows how to operate in that environment
What the job involves
- Our generative AI-powered products are bringing joy back to the practice of medicine, and we’re looking for a seasoned engineering manager to lead our growing team of US-based platform + infrastructure engineers
- You’ll support the team that manages our technical underpinnings including Kubernetes clusters; networks; IaC; and CI/CD tools
- People Management: Recruit, retain, and mentor platform engineers. Provide regular feedback; create opportunities for career growth; and foster a culture of collaboration and excellence
- Project Management: Work closely with stakeholders such as product managers and customers to plan, execute, and support multiple projects simultaneously. You will be responsible for the engineering process in the team and the output of the team
- Technical Leadership: Help set business context for the team and apply your knowledge of business and software engineering to guide architectural discussions; anticipate and resolve technical challenges; and advocate for technology projects
- Drive Initiatives: During your tenure at Abridge you’ll have the opportunity to lead efforts that span multiple teams. These might include technology projects such as a major refactoring; adding a new capability such as multi-cloud; or overhauling a process that we’ve outgrown
- Champion Quality: Set a high standard for your team including software quality; communication; collaboration; and compliance with industry and regulatory standards
Our take
Summarizing key elements of healthcare conversations is crucial for both physicians and patients. Medical scribes, though effective, are costly, and the healthcare system faces funding and staffing crises. This has created a demand for more efficient notetaking solutions.
This is where Abridge comes in, it has developed a HIPAA-compliant AI platform that transcribes, structures, summarizes, and provides insights from audio or transcripts of medical conversations. It claims to work across all specialities and offers patient-friendly summaries in easy-to-understand language.
Abridge aims to alleviate pressure on the healthcare system from the patient's perspective, a unique approach among healthtech startups. While companies like Inovia, DOUB, and DeepScribe focus on assisting physicians with medical transcription AI, they lack Abridge's patient-centric features, which are valuable in enhancing the patient experience.
