Role
Who you are
- An ideal candidate will have experience in commercial contracting, as well as the retailer, payments, and/or fintech industries, but should be comfortable being a generalist and willing to roll up their sleeves and contribute to a wide range of in-house legal matters
- Strong candidates will be solution-oriented, thrive on small teams, work efficiently, and be comfortable managing projects independently
- A JD from an ABA accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar (in good standing)
- 5+ years of relevant experience at a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department in the U.S
- Experience leading commercial transactions through all stages of the transaction lifecycle (including contracting with major brands), as well as experience advising clients on consumer-facing product development in a highly regulated industry
- Experience building and improving legal processes such as contract management, including through the effective use of software platforms and technology
- A level-headed demeanor, great judgment, and a problem-solving attitude
- Agility and flexibility to take on new tasks and responsibilities when necessary to support the business and legal team's needs in a fast-moving, rapidly- scaling, and dynamic tech company
- Regulatory/compliance experience is preferred but not required. Experience dealing with payment card industry regulations and technology licensing is strongly preferred
What the job involves
- In this role, you will be a key member of our legal team
- You will be supporting our enterprise-wide commercial and product initiatives in expanding the business and compliantly building healthcare/fintech products
- This role reports to the Head of Legal and Compliance
- Collaborating with cross functional teams (spanning multiple time zones) to help negotiate and close deals
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various documents, including MSAs, SOWs, Merchant Integration Agreements (MIAs), technology licensing agreements, marketing agreements, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, NDAs, and other similar agreements
- Providing product counseling and risk assessments developing new product/feature offerings, as well as consumer engagement initiatives. This includes supporting regulatory compliance in the payments space by developing an understanding of applicable requirements and communicating those requirements and the related risks to business stakeholders in a practical, digestible way
- Working closely and collaboratively with other business functions, providing guidance and practical advice related to internal operations and policies, day-to-day issues, and challenges impacting the company
- Coordinating with external counsel, auditors, and service providers
- Monitoring laws and regulatory trends impacting our industry to strategically manage risk
- Supporting existing legal/compliance processes and operations, including contract management, and helping to develop new processes as the company continues to scale
Our take
Between 80% and 90% of a person’s health is determined by environmental and behavioural factors. These Social Determinants of Health (or SDOH) are what evermore (previously Soda Health) aims to address, setting out to create more equitable styles of health benefits and ensure better health across social borders.
It works by changing the way health benefits are claimed, offering members a sort of pay-as-you-go benefits credit card. What's covered here are things not traditionally included among health benefits, which are impacted by wealth inequity, the ability to buy nutritional foods or over-the-counter medicines, and limited access to transportation for healthcare appointments.
It’s an interesting model, and not one which has many directly comparable competitors. But the concept of HealthTech for SDOH is an overcrowded market, and evermore's $50 million in Series B funding awarded in 2024 will help it stand firm against larger start-ups like Unite Us or Cityblock.
