Role
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 8+ years of experience developing data-intensive backend APIs and service at scale
- 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering projects
- Proven track record of customer-centric technical leadership and delivering customer value
- Solid engineering and coding skills (preferably Go, TypeScript or another typed language)
- Production experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS) and cloud native architecture
- Production experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Production experience with distributed systems, data stores, data modeling, indexing and associated trade-offs
- Production experience with software testing and automation
Desirable
- 3+ years of experience developing backend services with Go and/or TypeScript
- Experience with TypeScript build tools beyond configuration (tsc and alternative compilers, bundlers, etc.)
- Experience with performance analysis of JavaScript applications
- Experience working in close collaboration with frontend engineers and product managers
- Experience with Bazel (especially Go, TS/JS rules)
- You adore strict mode and despise the `any` type
What the job involves
- We are seeking experienced software engineers to design and implement backend APIs and services which power Voxel’s core customer experience
- This role will collaborate with many teams across the company to deliver robust, high performance, and scalable technical solutions. Successful candidates have a track record of delivering scalable, production quality services in data-intensive environments
- They also have a proven track record of leading customer-centric technical projects and delivering customer value
- Collaborate with engineering and non-engineering teams across the company to better understand our users and how our technology can meet their evolving needs
- Lead engineering projects from scoping to implementation to maintenance
- Research, propose, and design backend services and APIs based on the needs of customers and internal systems
- Implement backend services and APIs (Node, Python, GraphQL/REST, AWS)
- Perform data modeling and data management (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, TimescaleDB)
- Monitor, measure, and improve system quality using a data-driven approach
- Utilize and contribute to software engineering best practices (Git, CI/CD, observability, test automation, etc.)
- Author and contribute to technical documents, such as design documents or system documentation
- Mentor and guide the technical development of other engineers
