Who you are
- Proven experience in engineering leadership roles, either as a tech lead or engineering manager
- Strong technical expertise in developing both the frontend and backend for data-intensive applications
- High ethical standards for handling sensitive data, ensuring adherence to data privacy rules and compliance standards
- Willingness to travel up to 15%
- Excellent communication skills, teamwork abilities, and project ownership
- U.S. Citizenship (required to access U.S.-only data systems)
- Proficiency with software development in cloud services
- Familiarity with Typescript, React, and Kubernetes-based deployment systems
What the job involves
- We’re seeking a dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team for our core product, Decrypt
- In this role, you will build and manage a cross-functional team that allows users to find the right data from our holdings and create new ways to work with our data
- Team Building: Develop and lead a strong cross-functional team that allows users to find the right data from our holdings and create new ways to work with our data
- Workflow Development: Design and build scalable, reliable, data-intensive new workflows that allow our customers to use our data more insightfully. Build workflow building blocks to serve as a foundation for other teams within the company
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance how the decrypt team works with horizontal and peer engineering teams to drive collaboration and higher engineering standards
- Career Development: Mentor and develop the engineers on the decrypt team to achieve their high potential and become leaders within VL engineering
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, mission success, and our customers, leveraging your communication skills to ensure effective teamwork

The company’s workflow platform Decrypt, uses machine learning and automation to understand, target, and respond to foreign actors in ways not previously possible. The platform is a proven success, driving Vannevar’s growth and attracting a $40M OTA contract with the Department of Defense.
Yielding impressive traction so far, the company is using its latest Series B funding round to invest in new product development. Vannevar Labs is also aiming to win its first multi-year program from Decrypt. Should it be successful, the level of guaranteed sales and revenue would be a turning point in the company’s long-term trajectory.
