Who you are
- This role requires an independent, analytical, and generalist approach to problem-solving and project management, with a relentless pursuit of operational excellence
- History of identifying and developing business cases for strategic growth opportunities and operational improvements and elegantly executing projects from proposal to implementation
- Natural curiosity and a solutions-oriented mindset that leads to proactively coming to the table with creative solutions. Some projects will be given to you, and others will require you to identify gaps in the business
- Independent, self-starter with the ability to quickly respond to problems — both tactical and strategic — and proactively address conflicting stakeholder requirements to achieve creative compromise
- Able to deep dive into data, identify and quantify opportunities, and design sustainable improvements and solutions
- Excellent communication and influencing skills - able to manage up or down in the organization, and comfort working with senior leadership
- Strong presentation skills combined with the ability to present data in a way that is persuasive to all audiences
- Mix of analytical mindset, business acumen, and personal drive
- 5+ years of work experience in a relevant field (ex. consulting, strategy, operations) with demonstrated cross-functional and collaborative project or team management experience, and a track record of leveraging data for business impact
- Experience working in a high growth startup a big plus, especially in a fully remote/async environment
- Proficient in advanced Excel
- Fluent written and spoken English

What the job involves
- Matter Labs is growing incredibly quickly thus building an all-star Operations team is critical to the success of the project
- As the Senior Operations Manager, you will play a key strategic role, directly reporting to the Chief of Staff to the COO
- The day-to-day tasks will vary widely, requiring you to be flexible, proactive, hands-on, strategic, efficient and resourceful
- We're still a small team, which lends itself to high degrees of autonomy, impact, accountability, and the expectation for high execution power and attention to detail
- We care about results, and give lots of trust while working on strong alignment to achieve those results
- Identify, develop, and drive operational excellence and long-term strategies and initiatives across multiple priorities, issues, and roadblocks facing the Operations team (as well as wider business) using your experience leveraging data for business impact
- Personally lead key company and department-wide initiatives in a fast, efficient, and effective manner (for example, filling in for business gaps, introducing and documenting team processes, leading team OKR planning, manage external investor relationships)
- Serve as a liaison between Operations, Leadership, and our different business units (Growth, Tech, Business), demonstrating clear and direct communication skills
- Support in driving forward key projects across all Operations functions, including: Investor Relations, Finance, Legal, People Operations, Recruiting (for example, preparing quarterly Investor Updates, responding to Investor inquiries, maintaining documentation system for legal documents, helping analyze employee engagement surveys)
Our take
While the Ethereum network offers users highly rated security, the trade off is that its network volume doesn’t have enough capacity to allow for fast and cheap transactions. Matter Labs is one of a small number of companies that are building scaling protocols through its zero-knowledge proof driven product, zkSync.
It’s not the only company of its kind, with the likes of Arbitrum and Optimism also receiving plenty of publicity and funding. However, Matter Labs zero-knowledge proof approach has been praised for both its transaction speed and security. If it was easy however, many more companies would be doing it, so it appears that Matter Labs has made a significant headstart on the competition.
Over the last couple of years, the startup has secured some major funding from high-profile investors such as Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and Union Square Ventures. Matter Labs released its recently renamed ZkSync Era - a zero-knowledge, open-source security platform on Ethereum in 2023. Matter Labs is predicting zero-knowledge cryptography to outlive alternative "optimistic" security tech from the likes of Arbitrum.
