Role
Who you are
- This role is ideal for someone who enjoys architecting systems from scratch, optimizing performance, and working with cutting-edge AI technologies (like OpenAI APIs, embeddings, agents, etc.)
- While you should be comfortable touching frontend code when needed, your strength lies in backend systems, APIs, and AI integration
- Solid backend experience with Node.js and Express (or similar)
- Experience building and scaling web services and APIs
- Familiarity with modern JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript
- Hands-on experience integrating OpenAI or other LLM APIs
- Understanding of prompt engineering, vector embeddings, or agentic patterns
- Ability to think through system design and architecture independently
- This is a contractor/vendor role. You will not be an employee of Panopto. You must be able to invoice us for services rendered and be responsible for your own taxes and benefits
- All deliverables must comply with our confidentiality/IP/data handling policies
Desirable
- Experience with structured output parsing from LLMs (e.g., JSON, markdown)
- Solid experience with React framework
- Experience with FFmpeg or low-level media processing
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Full Stack Engineer (JavaScript, LLM/OpenAI experience) to join our team as an independent contractor
- R. This is an exciting opportunity to help us shape the infrastructure and intelligence layer behind one of the leading AI video generation platforms
- Design and build backend services (Node.js, Express) to support scalable AI-powered features
- Architect and optimize databases and service infrastructure
- Integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.) into our product workflows
- Working with our Research team and custom AI models
- Contribute to React-based frontend apps
- Project Start Date: Immediately
- Estimated Project End Date: Ongoing
- Estimated Weekly Hours: 40 hours a week
- Location: Remote

Our take
The concept for Panopto developed in the early noughties when the founders noticed that storing videos on computer hard drives was becoming cheaper than storing them on tape. The company’s foundations were in a free software paid support service that provided the tools for downloading videos onto a computer. Nearly two decades later, Panopto provides educational institutions and enterprise businesses with screencasting, lecture recording, streaming and video content management software.
Panopto’s modern platform offers clients in education, aviation, telecoms, and healthcare, among others, an all-in-one video platform for creating and publishing video content. Its audience engagement tools, alongside GenAI video production software (through the acquisition of Elai), keep the company in step with modern innovations within the content production sector.
Panopto continues to grow its reach and in 2024 launched a cloud hosting service in Japan and acquired cloud hosting and GenAI startups to fuel its growth.
