Role
Who you are
- 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst/Product Owner/Product Manager or a similar role
- Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage tradeoffs, and evaluate opportunistic innovative ideas with technical and non-technical partners
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up hypotheses and recommendations
- Proven success in Agile product management, development and product ownership competencies including experience with JIRA (or equivalent) systems for backlog management, project status and work tracking
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Desirable
- CSPO or equivalent product management qualifications
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in Micro Frontend and Shared Services deliverables
- Experience in low-fidelity prototyping to aid early brainstorming with stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience in leading complex digital products in a fast moving environment involving multiple stakeholder groups
- Experience with managing a technical roadmap for service level deliverables
- Understanding of the educational technology landscape including knowledge of or experience with LMS systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, Desire to Learn, Moodle, Schoology, and others
What the job involves
- As a Product Manager on the Platform Product Team, you will be an integral part of the product development lifecycle for our Integrity products
- You will balance cost and impact when scoping new features, bugs, and technical debt with engineering and product partners
- You will partner with engineering to define technical requirements and priorities, and coordinate with operations and marketing teams to ensure smooth, frictionless rollouts
- At Turnitin, our products are built on a shared services model, requiring product managers to collaborate across multiple teams to ensure end-to-end interoperability and alignment across our products
- As part of “One Team” you will be required to manage cross-team dependencies and stakeholders to be successful
- Partner with Engineering and other Product leads to define technical and functional product requirements; lead implementation and rollout, including stakeholder communication
- Business Analysis activities including the creation and management of backlogs, epics, and user stories
- Proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve risks and obstacles. Adapt to change by offering clear options and their potential outcomes
- Create alignment across work tracks and product/engineering teams, with a shared product vision and roadmap
- Translate high-level strategy and concepts into actionable deliverables
Our take
Turnitin has a global reputation for being one of the best plagiarism detection softwares on the market. It’s well-earned, too. Besides simple paraphrasing plagiarism, its software also employs sophisticated techniques like identifying macro replacement and analysing metadata to weed out essay mill papers.
Academic plagiarism has become increasingly complex over the years, exacerbated in part by the COVID period of online schooling, and in part by a skyrocketing rise in computer literacy and plagiarism tricks. Software like Turnitin is therefore playing an increasingly crucial role in maintaining academic integrity. Additionally, it helps understaffed institutions ease the burden placed on a teaching workforce which are, in some regions, perilously close to collapse.
Turnitin is not without its issues, however. Some institutions lean too heavily on the software, and essay mills have begun using Turnitin software to prove product authenticity. Historically, Turnitin has neatly addressed these problems by releasing new or improved capabilities including Chat GPT screening updates in 2023. If it can continue to demonstrate remarkable competence and proactive development in this regard, Turnitin’s glowing reputation seems assured.
