- Based in the Bay Area and are committed to a hybrid schedule (3 days/week onsite in SF)

What the job involves
- We’re looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team
- You’ll work on financial products that directly impact self-employed individuals and small businesses across the U.S
- As a key contributor on our product engineering team, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers, product managers, and designers to build and scale core features of our platform
- Drive end-to-end implementation of features that directly impact solopreneur financial outcomes, owning them from design to launch
- Integrate and leverage AI tools (such as Generative AI and LLMs) to build intuitive, automated user experiences and achieve non-linear scalability
- Contribute across the full stack (Python/Django, React/TypeScript) to develop core features and build systems that replace manual financial workflows
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Design to translate business requirements into best-in-class product experiences and high-impact solutions
- Actively participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and planning sessions to elevate engineering practices and shape the technical foundation as we scale
- Learn rapidly from senior engineers, consistently developing your expertise and problem-solving skills in a high-growth environment
Our take
Collective is tapping into the quickly growing freelance and self employed workforce with a back office platform which provides full support for accounting, tax, bookkeeping and other financial admin, essentially removing the burden from the business owner entirely.
Launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest funding round, raised in 2023, supports the accelerated implementation of AI across its operations as well as expanded onboarding efforts. Collective also continues to broaden the value of its offering, for example wit the launch of an AI accounting platform for one-person operations.
