Who you are
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited school; Equivalent years of distribution engineering experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- 5-8+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design, with a demonstrated proficiency in a wide variety of project types and complexities
- Strong working knowledge of utility standards, codes, and practices specific to electric distribution
- Proven experience performing QA/QC reviews and ensuring compliance with client and regulatory standards
- Proficiency in design software such as Pole Foreman, WMS, Design manager, AutoCAD, or equivalent tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in technical design and documentation
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, clients, and junior engineers
- Prior experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior staff preferred
- Ability to perform occasional site visits, if required, based on project needs and location
What the job involves
- Power your future with Qualus as a Lead Distribution Engineer. Our Lead Distribution Engineers serve as subject matter experts in local utility distribution standards, providing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) across all phases of distribution design
- In this leadership role, you'll guide and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams and clients to ensure technically sound and compliant designs
- Utilizing tools such as Pole Foreman, WMS, DM, and/or AutoCAD, you'll support safe, efficient solutions and uphold best practices in utility distribution engineering
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in local utility distribution engineering standards, ensuring all designs meet regulatory and client-specific requirements
- Conduct and oversee thorough QA/QC reviews of distribution engineering designs to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, and safety
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external clients to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality, practical engineering solutions
- Develop and implement end-to-end overhead and underground distribution design tools such as Pole Foreman, WMS, Design Manager, and/or AutoCAD
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, supporting their professional development and promoting team growth
- Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among distribution engineering teams to standardize best practices and drive continuous improvement
- Communicate regularly with project leadership to report on progress, identify challenges, and propose improvements for project execution
- Participate in field visits as needed to support design accuracy and validate existing infrastructure, depending on proximity to job sites
