Role
Who you are
- You will be experienced with GCP, or its core concepts from working with AWS or Azure, as well as a capable Node.js / Typescript Engineer
- You will have experience integrating with a variety of APIs and 3rd party services, as well as Terraform and testing frameworks such as Jest
- Our datastore is NoSQL, so familiarity with the benefits and limitations of such a store would also be beneficial
- Drive to solve complex problems and overcome scaling challenges
- Proactive attitude and eagerness to collaborate with all areas of the business and our customers directly
- Empathy and enthusiasm to help the wider team progress through mentoring and tech leadership
What the job involves
- You will work directly with our other Engineers and Founders to ensure you're developing professionally, as well as happy, motivated, and understand the wider business & health context that we are working in
- The people around you will be super smart and motivated, and expect a lot from you
- Leading the design, implementation, and evolution of scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions and cloud architecture to address complex healthcare challenges and improve patient care
- Championing technical excellence and continuous improvement by driving best practices in software development, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure
- Building a high-calibre engineering team through mentorship, collaboration, and a commitment to quality, while taking ownership of diverse technical challenges across the stack
- Build the platform that will allow our clients to look after their patients, integrating new SSO OAuth providers, Patient Record systems, amongst other things!
- Assist with managing our cloud infrastructure, VMs and networking requirements, to ensure that we can scalably interact with NHS systems
- Work on some of our first international rollouts, ensure all automation and infrastructure is in place
- Actively contribute to our Product strategy
Application process
- Interviewing with us for the Senior Node.js & Cloud Engineer role will be split into 4 stages (all conducted virtually):
- A screening interview with our Director of Operations - 20 minutes
- A practical task you will complete independently
- A technical interview with our Engineering Lead - 1 hour
- A final interview with one of our Co-founders - 30 minutes

Our take
Isla wants to empower healthcare professionals by allowing them to use visual data—photos and videos of patients—by securely recording this data to a medical professional's smartphone.
The ambitious startup has partnered with the Central London Community Healthcare Trust and the NHS, successfully supporting various NHS trusts on their digitisation journey. Isla will focus on leveraging visual data to improve end-of-life care and dermatology services. Additionally, the company has added an Impact page to its website, showcasing evidence of Isla's benefits.
Now that a case can be made for visual health data flows being helpful, the company's platform could see even wider adoption. Once sufficiently high-quality data sets have been collected, Isla can use the visual data, provided with patient consent, to inform medical practice more generally.
The next few years at Isla should be interesting as the company is looking to replicate the operation of its product across several hospitals and healthcare facilities. Isla's end game is to be fully integrated into all incumbent Patient Administration Systems to make the platform seamless for clinicians.
