Role
Who you are
- We are looking for engineers who have shipped production agentic AI features and are ready to move fast in ambiguity
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time shipping production LLM-powered or agentic features
- Fluency with tool calling, prompt engineering, and agent loops — you have built systems where the LLM is a first-class component, not a bolt-on
- Experience with eval frameworks and observability for non-deterministic systems (Braintrust, LangSmith, custom eval harnesses, or equivalent)
- Full-stack comfort — you can move between backend orchestration, tool design, and conversational UI without being blocked by hand-offs
- High degree of cross-functional collaboration — past colleagues in product, design, and business would speak highly of your teamwork
- Strong sense of ownership and drive, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
Desirable
- Experience with RAG or retrieval systems at production quality
- Background in restaurant tech, commerce, or SMB operator tooling
- Contributions to open source agent frameworks, evals, or LLM tooling
- Experience growing and mentoring engineers on agentic AI patterns

- Owner is the leading all-in-one platform for independent restaurants. Operators use Owner to run their online ordering, websites, menus, marketing, and customer experience. Tens of thousands of restaurants depend on us every day to run their business
- AI Agents at Owner is a team with a singular mandate: build agents that let restaurant owners run their business through natural conversation, everywhere they work with Owner. This is one of the most important strategic bets at Owner, and the team is early enough that you will shape the architecture, platform, and products from the ground up
- Your immediate impact: own an agent surface end-to-end. Your longer-term impact: help define what an agent platform at Owner looks like, and set technical direction for the dozen-plus agent surfaces we will build over the next year
- Own one or more agent surfaces end-to-end, from LLM integration and tool design to backend orchestration, conversational UI, and evals
- Contribute to the shared agent platform: tool abstractions, chat persistence, eval frameworks, RAG, observability, permissioning
- Shape technical direction on agent architecture, framework choice, and model strategy across Owner
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs on latency, cost, and reliability so our agents feel fast and trustworthy in production
- Raise the bar for agent quality through rigorous evals, thoughtful iteration, and patterns other engineers adopt

Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 10,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2025 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
