Who you are
- 7+ years of hands-on product management experience, with 2+ years building technical products for developers
- Established track record of building API products at rapidly scaling companies in deep collaboration with engineering teams
- Proven ability to drive large projects through their lifecycle, applying past experiences to make practical choices between speed and quality to deliver effective solutions
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Innate ownership mindset. You thrive on owning problems end-to-end and will take a hands-on approach to do whatever it takes to make the product and team successful
- Fearless in diving deep into new areas to learn and gain the knowledge you need to be successful in a technical product space
- Empowering leadership style. You know how to lead from the front and from the back and are passionate about helping those around you grow and improve

What the job involves
- Symmetry Software is looking to hire an experienced Product Manager for our rapidly growing organization. Our APIs and SDKs are the foundation of Symmetry’s business, reaching over 64 million employees’ paychecks every year
- You will be responsible for the creation, strategies, and roadmaps for both existing and future business lines
- As the second hire in the Product organization, you’ll have a unique opportunity to improve the product development process within a small, fast paced team
- This is a builder role and is empowered by Symmetry Software’s Head of Product
- Cultivate a deep understanding of the payroll technology marketplace with a focus on client experience
- Define the strategy and roadmap for our core product portfolio
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, and other cross-functional partners (including the Symmetry leadership team) to execute the roadmap and make day-to-day prioritization decisions
- Develop a framework and set of metrics to measure the impact you deliver to the business
- Execute hypothesis-driven product experiments, iterate, and ship to customers frequently
- Drive improvements to the Symmetry product development lifecycle
Our take
For many small businesses, vital administrative tasks such as payroll, taxes, and benefits are manual tasks that take time and energy which many SMB owners don’t have. The three co-founders of Gusto – all coming from small business backgrounds – collaborated on a Fintech company that would handle employee payments, benefits administration, and compliance support specifically for small businesses.
The company may have started slowly, as the founders focused on nailing each individual aspect of Gusto’s operations, but has now skyrocketed to unicorn status with more than 200,000 customers and a multi-billion dollar valuation. In 2021, Gusto began acquiring other companies to strengthen its offering and its position in a competitive market, including two other fintech startups, Ardius and Symmetry.
Through its continued acquisitions and fundraising efforts, the company has carved out a strong position for itself in the space. Although Gusto has found itself impacted by the macroeconomic situation, through the significant effect it has had on its clientele, the company still appears positive for the future after raising funds in 2023 that will see it reach key profitability benchmarks. It continues to consolidate its platform, for example by integrating with OpenComp to grant its users access to the company's Compensation Intelligence Platform.
